Primary objective Provide assembly, maintenance, fault diagnoses and repair services for all instrumentation and data transmission equipment associated with Water Resource Monitoring throughout the Northern Territory. Context statement This role supports the Instrument Workshop Manager in providing asset management and technical support to water monitoring officers as they deliver water monitoring programs across the Northern Territory. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Assist with the assembly, testing, installation and repair of hydrometric instrumentation under supervision. 2. Support the servicing, calibration, fault finding, deployment and tracking of water monitoring equipment and assets. 3. Assist in maintaining asset registers, databases and technical documentation. 4. Participate in field trips to repair or replace monitoring equipment and associated infrastructure, including in remote locations. 5. Provide practical field support to water monitoring officers as required. Work safely in, on and around water bodies, including during flood conditions, and operate or travel in small boats and all-terrain vehicles where required. Selection criteriaEssential 1. Demonstrated interest in hands-on technical or trade-based work, particularly electronic or instrumentation equipment, with a willingness to undertake training to develop skills. 2. Ability to safely use hand and power tools or demonstrated capacity to learn. 3. Basic practical skills or ability to learn wiring/cable termination tasks, ability to identify colours in various electrical wiring. 4. Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn software used for water monitoring and telemetry systems. 5. Ability to work safely and effectively in remote locations and follow procedures under limited supervision. 6. Physically fit and able to undertake physically demanding work in remote Territory conditions. 7. Good communication skills with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a small team. 8. Hold a current NT drivers licence or have the ability to obtain, and have the ability to obtain a Northern Territory firearms licence. Desirable 1. Experience as an apprentice, trades assistant, technical assistant or in a similar hands-on or field-based role. 2. Fabrication skills, instrument testing/assembly experience. 3. Any exposure to electronics, instrumentation or electrical work. Further information This role is primarily based in the Water Resources instrument workshop in Winnellie. However, the role will also require remote area travel, working and camping away from home for up to three weeks at a time and working outside normal hours. To be successful, applicants will be required to undertake and pass a pre-employment screening including a medical/fitness assessment and drug testing.
