Expression of InterestPolicy OfficerLegal Services Council Location Sydney with flexible working arrangements available Employment type Temporary (up to 24 December 2026) Full-time positions (35 hrs per week) Grade/Salary Departmental Professional Officer Grade 3, Base Salary ($121,845 $133,105), plus employers contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading Your roleThis Policy Officer role supports the Legal Services Council in overseeing the Legal Profession Uniform Law scheme across NSW, Victoria and Western Australia. Its a unique opportunity to contribute to high-profile legal policy and regulatory reform within a small, specialist team. Youll work on complex and meaningful initiatives that shape the regulation of the legal profession, gaining exposure to legislative development, stakeholder engagement and government decision-making processes.What youll doAs part of the Legal Services Council Secretariat within the Department of Communities and Justice, you will: Undertake research and analysis to inform policy and regulatory initiatives Prepare discussion papers, briefs, submissions and policy advice Support legislative and regulatory reform, including instructing on drafting Coordinate working groups, committee meetings and stakeholder consultations Contribute to monitoring, reporting and evaluation of regulatory outcomes Work as part of a small, collaborative and high-performing policy team that values professionalism, integrity and sound legal analysis. What were looking for Legal qualifications (Bachelor of Laws or equivalent) and sound knowledge of Commonwealth and State law and the legislative process. Experience in policy development, regulatory reform or legal advisory roles, including preparing high-quality written advice under time constraints. Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal and policy issues and provide clear, practical recommendations. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive information and coordinate consultations effectively.
