Join a futurefocused team working at the frontline of disaster risk analysis in NSW, using data and analytics to inform smarter decisions that reduce the impact of natural hazards on communities and infrastructure. Ongoing, full-time role with our Disaster Risk Reduction Division. Parramatta/Sydney based role with flexible work options and hybrid arrangements available. Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $113,574 - $125,720 + super. About the roleAs a Disaster Risk Analyst, you will play a critical role in strengthening NSWs disaster resilience by providing highquality statistical and quantitative analysis that underpins disaster risk assessment and reduction. Working across hazard, exposure and vulnerability data, you will help to identify key risks, trends and opportunities that inform evidencebased decisionmaking across government and partner agencies.You will work with complex probabilistic, spatial and nonspatial datasets to develop risk metrics, including Average Annual Loss (AAL), and contribute to decision support tools that guide disaster adaptation, preparedness and resilience planning. This role sits at the intersection of data, policy and impact, translating complex analytical outputs into practical insights that support realworld outcomes.Key responsibilities include: Sourcing, preparing, integrating and transforming data from disparate sources to develop hazard, exposure, vulnerability, risk and insurance metrics. Analysing probabilistic, spatial and nonspatial data to identify trends, patterns and drivers of multihazard risk across NSW. Developing, maintaining and curating datasets, dashboards and data visualisation tools that support disaster adaptation and resilience planning. Applying statistical, geospatial and advanced analytical methods, including machine learning techniques, to deliver actionable insights. Producing analytical outputs such as datasets, dashboards, visualisations and technical reports to inform decisionmakers. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support coordinated, evidencebased disaster risk reduction initiatives. About YouYou are a datadriven analyst who is motivated by applying analytics to realworld challenges with tangible community impact. You bring a strong analytical mindset, are comfortable working with complex datasets, and can translate technical insights into clear, decisionready outputs for diverse audiences.You will bring: Practical experience in natural hazard or disaster risk modelling. Proficiency in Excel and coding in SQL and Python for data wrangling, analysis and automation. Experience analysing probabilistic, spatial and nonspatial data to generate meaningful insights. Strong capability in communicating analysis through charts, spatial outputs and data visualisations; familiarity with tools such as Power BI and GIS platforms is desirable. The ability to manage competing analytical priorities while working collaboratively with stakeholders across government and partner organisations Knowledge and experience Practical experience in natural hazard and risk modelling Proficiency with Excel and coding in SQL and Python for data wrangling, analysis and automation. Ability to communicate analyses using charts and spatial outputs; familiarity with data visualisation tools (Power BI, GIS platforms) is desirable. Essential requirements: Tertiary qualifications in engineering, science, statistics, actuarial studies, data science, or equivalent professional data analytics knowledge and experience.
