ManagerAdvisings and Community Protection DCJ Legal Principal location Parramatta - Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated Employment type Ongoing full-time position (35 hours) Salary Manager Clerk Grade 9/10, Base Salary ($129,464 -$142,665), plus employers contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading Your roleYou will be a practice manager in the Advisings and Community Protection team in the Legal Branch of the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ). The team provides legal advice and support to the Attorney General as First Law Officer, as well as other Ministers and Executives in DCJ. The team provides advice and/or manages proceedings in relation to: High-risk offenders, forensic patients, parole and segregated and protective custody orders for inmates, Management of inmates, detainees and/or parolees by Corrective Services NSW and Youth Justice NSW, Applications for annulment of convictions, reviews of sentences and convictions, extinguishment of historical homosexual convictions and the exercise of the Royal prerogative of mercy, Applications for act of grace payments, Applications under theSuitors Fund Act 1951and theCosts in Criminal Cases Act 1967, and the Attorney Generals common law or statutory powers and responsibilities including constitutional matters, prosecution of indictable matters, criminal contempt, vexatious proceedings, judicial review, and charitable trusts. Through these functions, the team supports the Attorney General, other portfolio Ministers, and the DCJ more broadly and contributes to upholding the safety and protection of the community and maintaining public confidence in the justice system.What youll doAs part of the Advisings and Community Protection team, you will: Lead and manage projects, including developing strategies around supporting stakeholders, managing, and promoting education and training, and the development of training resources and systems. Contribute to the development of policy, practices and standards including coordination and review of the teams work practices, procedures and processes to deliver effective outcomes, meet service delivery needs and minimise business risks. Closely assist the Director in the professional supervision and mentoring of project and support staff, including where assigned, coordinating the allocation of resources and workloads, monitoring business and staff performance, providing instruction and direction to enhance and motivate staff to create a cohesive and skilled team. You will also: Prepare management and operational reports with reliability, integrity and accuracy and provide interpretative support to enable informed decision making. Provide advice, recommendations and participate in decision making. Manage resources, monitor budgets and forecasting of expenditure. Co-ordination of records and practice management systems and associated reporting to meet operational requirements with a high degree of reliability, integrity, and accuracy. Undertake research and analysis in various project areas and contribute to the preparation of project briefs to support informed decision making and planning. Identify opportunities to enhance records management, practice management, and business intelligence systems to meet current and future needs. Improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of services through innovation. What were looking for Experience in managing legal support functions with proven leadership ability in supervising and mentoring staff in a high-volume, high-stakes environment. Knowledge of practice management systems and use of reporting tools. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities under tight deadlines.
