The CMO in General Medicine will complete the timely review of inpatient referrals and discussion of referrals with Consultants / treating teams.As a Career Medical Officer (CMO) in General Medicine, the incumbent may be required to work across the Geriatric Medicine service.The Career Medical Officer (CMO) in General Medicine is responsible for delivering highquality, patientcentred care to older persons within a complex clinical environment. The CMO undertakes comprehensive patient assessments, makes informed treatment decisions in consultation with the responsible Specialist, performs procedures within scope of practice and credentialing, and ensures accurate and contemporaneous medical documentation.The CMO provides supervised general medical management of patients admitted under geriatric and general medical services. All patients remain under the direct care of a Specialist Medical Practitioner, and all clinical decisions, management plans, and significant changes in condition must be clearly communicated with the responsible Consultant.Working closely with consultants and senior medical staff, the CMO is expected to demonstrate sound clinical judgment, professional accountability, and a developing depth of expertise in geriatric medicine. Through close liaison with Consultants, the CMO will demonstrate clinical ability and progressively expand areas of responsibility in accordance with experience and service needs.The role includes patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.Close and effective liaison with consultants will allow the doctor to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable you to expand your areas of responsibility. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner.
