Primary objective Provide operational and administrative support to the development and implementation of saltwater crocodile management and safety programs, and the effective application and regulation of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976 and other relevant legislation. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Assist in the effective delivery of saltwater crocodile and other wildlife management programs. 2. Work in a team to safely deliver work programs, including mentoring less-experienced staff, with good interpersonal skills and a professional attitude. 3. Operate vessels and corporate vehicles, including 4WDs and on occasion, travel long distances, in remote locations and off road. 4. Exercise delegated powers, provide advice and recommendations in relation to permits and assist to undertake inspections under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976 and other relevant legislation, appropriate to the level of training and qualifications. 5. Maintain electronic records and undertake administrative tasks, including procurement, as directed. 6. Assist with research and management programs and provide advice to the public relating to crocodile management and safety, biodiversity conservation and threatening processes. 7. Ensure vehicles, vessels and other equipment is maintained in good working order and operate within a strong safety culture by implementing Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures. Selection criteria Essential 1. Experience in a field of technical work closely related to the duties of the role and/or a relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent. 2. Knowledge of wildlife management and sustainable use, threatening processes and contemporary conservation issues and practices, preferably gained in an NT context. 3. Experience in animal care and handling, preferably including crocodiles, and relevant practical skills including equipment operation, maintenance and basic repairs. 4. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to function effectively in a team and to communicate tactfully and professionally with the broader community and diverse stakeholder groups. 5. Demonstrated ability to implement programs and projects within agreed timeframes and allocated resources. 6. Sound written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and collate data. 7. Good level of physical fitness with a proven ability and willingness to conduct fieldwork effectively and safely in remote locations under minimal supervision. 8. Current NT C class drivers license (with manual endorsement) and first aid certificate or ability to obtain in a short timeframe. Desirable 1. Certificate IV in Government Investigations, Coxswains Grade 2 qualification and firearms licence or the ability to obtain.
