Primary objective Provide technical financial and management accounting, taxation and business support for the department, and associated entities, including financial statement preparation, taxation returns, and budget preparation and monitoring. Context statement The Finance unit provide services to the departments divisions, Territory Wildlife Parks, and a number of statutory boards. Services include financial and taxation reporting, budgeting and forecasting, accounts payable, corporate credit card and travel administration, procurement reporting, delegations administration, audit coordination, monthly processing and reconciliations, and financial systems support. The team handles high and dynamic workloads with tight deadlines, with an emphasis on professional client service, thorough and accurate work, reliability, and collaboration. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provision of professional accounting and financial management expertise, including financial reporting (incorporating the preparation of financial statements), audit support, research, analysis and advice, in line with the Australian Accounting Standards, Treasurers Directions, and other relevant legislation, frameworks and documents. 2. Develop and monitor agency budgets and forecasts including preparation of reports, briefings and submissions. 3. Provision of taxation advice including goods and services tax, fringe benefits tax, payroll tax, and fuel tax credits, and completion of returns. 4. Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, maintenance of registers, and relevant Treasurers Direction requirements. 5. Provision of reporting and support across business systems and functions, including procurement, delegations, compliance activities and financial systems. 6. Provide support as required across the Finance and Business Services teams and to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Selection criteriaEssential 1. Well-developed financial accounting knowledge, including financial statements, balance sheet accounts, internal controls, and the collation and interpretation of financial data with the ability to interpret and apply financial management legislation, standards, policies, and procedures. 2. Technical proficiency and experience in budget development and monitoring, cost accounting, and the application of financial management legislation, policies, standards, and procedures. 3. A thorough understanding and experience of taxation and the ability to provide and prepare accurate advice and returns. 4. Highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, both written and oral communication, with proven ability to interact effectively with people from differing backgrounds with limited or no financial knowledge. 5. Demonstrated ability in the use of financial management systems, highly developed excel skills, with ability to manipulate large quantities of data to provide required information to support decision-making with proven accuracy and attention to detail. 6. Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment to meet deadlines, take initiative, keep management and team members informed, and provide guidance to the team and wider business support network.
