Primary objectiveProvide specialist alcohol and other drug client assessments, interventions, counselling and group work to reduce the risk of harm arising from the misuse of alcohol and other drugs to clients within the Darwin Correctional Facilities. Context statementAs part of the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Prison Inreach Team, the successful applicant is required to work within a multidisciplinary team in the provision of AOD focused groups and AOD counselling to clients with the Darwin correctional centre. Key duties and responsibilities1. Provide comprehensive screening and clinical assessment within a bio-psycho-social model, inclusive of risk assessment; and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) brief interventions, relapse prevention therapy and discharge planning. 2. Provide group work and other appropriate interventions to enhance positive change using a range of therapeutic interventions. 3. Provide education around issues relating to addiction and treatment options to staff, clients, family, community and other community services. 4. Maintain confidential case records, comply with policies, practice guidelines and assist with service evaluation activities. 5. Work collaboratively with individuals to enhance harm minimisation strategies. 6. Promote and actively contribute to continuous quality improvement activities to meet AOD service standards and follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. 7. Work from a best practice, evidence-based framework and ensure all duties and responsibilities are carried out in accordance with defined quality standards, relevant legislation, policies and procedures. 8. Selection criteriaEssential1. An Undergraduate Bachelor Degree of a recognised Tertiary Institution relevant to Alcohol and Other Drugs, including Behavioural Science, Psychology and Social Work etc. 2. Demonstrated ability to develop, facilitate, recommend and evaluate treatment interventions for clients with complex AOD and co-morbid issues. 3. Demonstrated ability in the use of appropriate specialist counselling skills inclusive of assessment, harm minimisation, group work and relapse prevention skills. 4. Knowledge of theoretical frameworks and evidence based therapeutic interventions to promote change, support harm minimisation, and relapse prevention. 5. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, communication, organizational and Information Technology skills to work efficiently and effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and maintain high quality accurate client records. 6. Ability to obtain a Northern Territory Corrective Services security clearance to enter Darwin Correctional Precinct.
