The department delivers both reactive and planned maintenance for all buildings on site, supporting a complex, fast-paced healthcare environment where reliability truly matters.Our culture is practical, supportive, and team-focused. Youll be working alongside experienced tradespeople who take pride in their work, look out for one another, and understand the importance of keeping essential hospital systems operating safely for patients, staff, and visitors.About the role:As a Mechanical Fitter within the Fitting team (5 staff), youll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment across the John Hunter campus and its ancillary buildings.A typical day may include:Reactive breakdown repairs and fault findingPreventive and scheduled maintenanceWorking on air conditioning and pumping systemsGeneral fitting and metalwork tasksRepairs and modifications to hospital equipment such as trolleys, IV poles, patient beds, and wheelchairsWorking across plant rooms and clinical support areasYoull report to the Mechanical Supervisor and work closely with other trade-qualified mechanical staff, with strong support from the broader Engineering management team.About you:Non-negotiable:TAFE Trades Certificate in Fitting and Machining or Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering and a tradesmans certificate of proficiency.Highly regarded:Post-trade qualificationsExperience working in large, complex facilities (healthcare or similar environments)What can be learned on the job:Site-specific systems and plantHealth facility processes and compliance requirementsYoull bring strong problem-solving skills, a safety-focused mindset, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a high-reliability environment.What we can offer you:At Hunter New England Health enjoy a career where you''re challenged by interesting work and surrounded by spectacular locations.
