This position will be located at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals.TheLevel 4Newborn Careserviceislocatedat BlacktownHospitaland is expanding from an 18 toa24 bedservice in 2026. Withover4000 births a year at Blacktown,and over 1200 admission per year, the Newborn Care service isone of the largest non-tertiary units in NSW.We are committed to enriching our workplace culture to deliver high quality, safe and reliable health care, and support every individual in our organisation in our pursuit of world class health care for our patients and their families and carers.The currentNewborn Care servicehas inpatient beds at Blacktown Hospital and focusses on providing familycentredcare. It issupported by a multidisciplinary team including lactation, physiotherapy, dietetics, speech therapyspecialistsand social work.The unit looks afterbabiesborn at Blacktown at >32weeks''gestation, those whoare transferred in from tertiary units for continuation of care,as well as admissions from smallerLevel 2 and 3units needinghigh levelsupport. The unitprovides care forneonates needing non-invasive ventilation (CPAP andHiFlow),surfactant deliveryand neonates requiring short term ventilation while awaiting a NETS transfer. The unit also has a busy out-patient clinicservice, withmultiplemulti-disciplinaryclinics including a Preterm DevelopmentFollow-up Clinic, Multi-disciplinaryFeedingClinicandNeonatal Connected Care Clinic (CCC).Successful applicants will provide high quality specialty services in Neonatology, including but not limited to admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient & On-Call specialty services as determined and required by Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals. The role also includes participation in teaching, quality improvement, administrative activities and research within the Department of Paediatrics & Neonatology and the wider facility and LHD as required. Appointees may be required to participate in other on-call rosters at nominated facilities within Western Sydney Local Health District as determined by clinical operations. Refer to PD for details.Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within three, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.Essential Requirements for Appointment1. Registered with the Medical Board of Australia2. Fellowship of the RoyalAustralasianCollege of Physicians, either in Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine, or Paediatrics and Child Health withexperience in neonatology will be considered.3. Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 3 months are eligible to apply.4. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.Selection Criteria1. Sound clinical knowledge, experience and skills inneonatology including acute and chronic management of premature and term neonates and newborn resuscitation,demonstratedthrough successful clinical practice in an environmentappropriate tothe requirements of the position.2. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner with leadership skills including: High level interpersonal and communication skills and ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities, patient safety and risk management and evidence-based best practice, policy and protocol development relevant to neonatology. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision, simulation-based teaching. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practice. Experience with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.3. Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality, family centred care within a non-tertiary newborn care service, including a clear understanding of the unique clinical, developmental and emotional needs of newborns and their families in this setting.4. Experience in or current professional development in the following desirable: Neonates in outpatient settings for example, long term Neuro-developmental follow up, Feeding Clinic and/or managing problems of neonates with maternal substance use. Clinician performed ultrasound.
