About the Role In this dynamic position, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of a government trout hatchery. From assisting with fish breeding and stocking programs to delivering guided tours, no two days are the same. You will be equally at home caring for fish behind the scenes and inspiring visitors out front. What Youll Be Doing Supporting fish production activities, including breeding, maintaining ova, fry, and fingerlings, and assisting with stocking programs Maintaining accurate hatchery records (batch and pond logs) and applying genetic and disease control procedures Assisting with the upkeep of hatchery infrastructure - ponds, tanks, pumps, and filtration systems and performing minor repairs Helping maintain clean, safe, and functional hatchery grounds and equipment Delivering engaging and educational guided tours to visitors, sharing the story of the hatchery and its environmental impact Building positive relationships with team members, stakeholders, and the broader community Roster & Working Arrangements This role operates on a 10-day roster (10 days on / 4 days off) You will be required to work every second weekend as part of the roster cycle The roster supports continuous hatchery operations, including peak seasonal production periods Key Knowledge and Experience Experience in salmonid hatchery production and fish stocking. Experience in the maintenance and operation of water reticulation systems and small machinery. Ability and willingness to work collaboratively under a variety of hydrological and climatic conditions.
