Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital serve as the principal tertiary hospital in the region, offering a comprehensive range of referral services across all specialist areas to Darwin, the Top End of the NT, Western Australia and South-East Asia. In the role of General Surgery Specialist Clinician, your primary focus will be to provide care and advice on the management of patients with general surgical conditions to colleagues both within and outside the speciality, and those located in geographically isolated centres across the Northern Territory. Your key duties will include the management of patient flow and conducting regular inpatient ward rounds and outpatient sessions, participating in routine and emergency after-hours care on a 24hr roster basis, and providing specialist opinions to referring medical practitioners. You will also be required to engage in continuous medical education including undergraduate and post graduate teaching, professional development, peer review, staff mentoring and training, and contributing to a culture of high-performing teams. To be successful you require eligibility for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and hold a current Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) or equivalent. A passion for rural, regional and Aboriginal healthcare and an interest in and commitment to improving Indigenous health is essential.
