Job description Wirimbirra Indigenous Ranger Program Albury NSW Part Time 0.8 FTE $90,000 pro rata 2 year fixed-term contract About us Albury and District Local Aboriginal Land Council (ADLALC) supports Aboriginal people in Albury and surrounds, NSW, through managing landholdings, preserving culture, and providing community services for the benefit of the local community. ADLALC has received funding from the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) to establish the Wirimbirra Indigenous Ranger Program. We are currently seeking a Ranger Coordinator to work with our Wirimbirra Rangers, based in Albury NSW. Wirimbirra Indigenous Ranger Program Wirimbirra Indigenous Ranger Program is a new 100% First Nations Ranger program within the boundaries of the Albury and District Local Aboriginal Land Council: from National Parks and State forests in the east, up to Billabong Creek in the north, to the plains and farms on the west, and the Murray River in the south. Wirimbirra Rangers combine traditional knowledge and cultural practices with Western science to manage and care for land and river Country. About the Role The Ranger Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the establishment and operations of the Wirimbirra Indigenous Ranger Team. The Ranger Coordinator will oversee a team of 6 Rangers, 3 Male and 3 Female, to deliver environmental and cultural knowledge programs. The Ranger Coordinator will work under the guidance of the Wirimbirra Ranger Program Steering Committee, ADLALC Board, Traditional Owners and Elders, and will report to the CEO. Tasks & responsibilities Establish and implement the Wirimbirra Ranger program in collaboration with ADLALC CEO, Board and Ranger Program Steering Committee Develop and review Ranger Program project plans and implement work activities Demonstrate strong leadership in supervising a team of 6 Indigenous Rangers including 2 Lead Rangers, 2 Rangers, and 2 Trainee Rangers Schedule and participate in Ranger field activities, including to remote locations, to protect and improve Country. Oversee on-Country activities including fire, fencing, land maintenance, weed and pest monitoring, and biodiversity management, completing six monthly and yearly outcomes. Engage and collaborate with stakeholders, land holders and various government levels to facilitate land access and Ranger activities. Identify training needs and facilitate training opportunities for the teams professional skills development to build the capacity of the Ranger Team Coordinate annual, monthly and daily work plans. Weekly report on work program progression and outcomes to CEO. Manage effectively the administrative requirements including timesheets, employee forms, payment forms, purchase orders and invoice submissions. Manage effectively the financial requirements including budgeting, purchasing, acquisitions, expenditure, and maintenance and repair coordination. Report effectively and document the Wirimbirra Ranger Program outcomes to CEO and NIAA at quarterly, and yearly intervals. Establish and maintain effective and accurate field data recording systems, software and technology. Provide updates to CEO, Board, Members and Ranger Program Steering Committee as required. Actively support cultural heritage protection and knowledge management for Wiradjuri community and wider Aboriginal community. Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures of the Land Council including cultural protocols, WHS and safe working practices, and legislative requirements. Qualifications & experience Qualification or equivalent practical experience in land, water or cultural heritage management or community based project management Experience working with First Nations organisations. Strong organisational and communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in cross cultural environments.
