Cat-HTR is a breakthrough technology, using hot pressurised water (a process known as hydrothermal liquefaction) to convert a wide range of feedstocks, including biomass residues and end of life plastics, into a bio-oil that enables the production of high-value, low carbon products, such as Marine fuel & Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Its pioneering Australian technology for a lower carbon future. About the role: As a Plant Operator / Junior Chemist, you will play an important role in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant, while also performing sampling, laboratory testing, and basic analysis to support production and R&D activities. This role is designed to build strong operational and technical capability, with scope to develop broader responsibility over time. It is well suited to a recent graduate or earlycareer professional seeking handson exposure to both plant operations and laboratorybased technical work. You will be involved across the full operational cycle - from preparing equipment and feeds, to supporting live operations, through to postrun cleaning, reset, documentation, and handover activities. In addition to operational duties, you will provide handson technical and laboratory support across the site. This includes sampling and testing, recording and interpreting process and laboratory data, assisting with troubleshooting and fault finding, supporting maintenance activities, and conducting equipment cleaning and housekeeping in both laboratory and plant environments. You will also contribute to continuous improvement and process optimisation initiatives. You will work closely with engineering and technical teams to support testing, trials, and optimisation work. This is a handson, dynamic role suited to someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their work, and is motivated to contribute beyond task execution. You will be expected to uphold high standards of safety, quality, and data integrity, while developing the practical experience, communication skills, and situational awareness needed to grow into broader operational, technical, or leadership responsibilities. You will receive comprehensive training to operate both plant and laboratory equipment safely and confidently, with increasing responsibility as your competence develops. About you: You demonstrate a strong leadership mindset from day one - taking initiative, acting with accountability, and completing work to a consistently high standard, with safety and quality as core priorities. You work confidently both independently and as part of a team, taking ownership of your responsibilities and communicating clearly to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations. You approach daytoday challenges with a calm, practical, and solutionsfocused mindset, and actively seek feedback to develop your operational and technical capability over time. You bring solid technical, mechanical, or laboratory aptitude, ideally gained in processbased or laboratory environments. Experience with sampling, laboratory testing, or quality control is desirable but not essential. You are handson, detailoriented, and motivated by achieving reliable, highquality outcomes. You are keen to develop practical experience and broader understanding to support troubleshooting, testing, and continuous improvement activities. You are dependable, professional, and collaborative, contributing positively to team culture. You support those around you, set a strong example through your work ethic, and are motivated by meaningful work and the opportunity to grow into increased operational, technical, or leadership responsibility. Skills & Attitude: Strong commitment to safety and quality, leading by example Proactive, adaptable, and practical approach to work Strong learning mindset, curiosity, and willingness to develop skills through handson experience Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to accurately record, interpret, and communicate process and laboratory data Competence with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) Cooperative, teamoriented mindset Strong organisational and timemanagement skills Sound analytical, troubleshooting, and problemsolving ability Motivation to prioritise work effectively and deliver highquality outcomes Willingness to learn and develop capability in sampling, laboratory testing, and basic analysis Previous exposure to process plant operations, R&D facilities, or laboratory environments is highly regarded Relevant qualifications such as Certificate III/IV or Diploma in Process Plant Operations, Laboratory Technology, Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related disciplines (including recent graduates) will be highly regarded How to apply: Please outline in a cover letter, of no more than two pages, how your experience and skills align against the key functions of the role outlined above.
