Job Description

For over 60 years, Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) has been a leading registered charity dedicated to providing expert care for surrendered, neglected, and abandoned companion animals across New South Wales. We are looking for a fulltime Veterinary Nurse to join our team. The role will primarily be based at our Kemps Creek Veterinary Clinic supporting animals rescued by our inspectors and ambulance service or surrendered by owners. You will see and respond to a full range of patient needs, primarily domestic cats and dogs, and will also have the opportunity to travel to regional communities to work on our Mobile Vet Clinic delivering subsidised desexing, vaccinations, and microchipping services. During natural disasters such as bushfires and flooding, the Mobile Vet Clinic provides a safe haven for displaced animals, assistance with pet products and food, and veterinary care to impacted communities. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians in various procedures, including surgeries, dental cleanings, and diagnostic tests Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians Monitor and record vital signs of animals, including heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature Provide postoperative care and monitor recovery of animals Educate clients on proper animal care and nutrition Maintain accurate medical records and update patient information in the computer system Clean and maintain equipment and facilities to ensure a safe and sanitary environment Willingness to undertake clinic reception duties and provide nursing advice in response to clinic enquiries Why You''ll Love It Here We offer competitive pay and benefits, including access to an Employee Assistance Program, retail discounts, and professional development opportunities. About You Cert IV qualifications in Veterinary Nursing Minimum of 2 years of postqualification experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously Knowledge of animal behaviour, anatomy, and physiology Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new software programs Deep knowledge and compassion for animals Familiarity with relevant legislation, including The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Companion Animals Act, is advantageous If you''re ready to make a significant impact, join our compassionate and skilled team!
