About The Role Carrapateena and Olympic Dam are copper mines that are part of BHP South Australia copper province. BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities. As the Principal Safety, you will provide critical input into the development and improvement of a safety framework that enables BHP to deliver on the Charter Values of doing what is right, seeking better ways and making a difference across Carrapateena. We have 2 positions available one in Carrapateena on an 8/6 roster; FIFO 60minute flight from Adelaide / 30minute flight from Port Augusta. The other role is at Olympic Dam on a 5/2 or 4/3 roster with FIFO from Adelaide or residential. In This Role You Will Lead, support and facilitate workshops and projectmanage improvement projects to enhance organisational capability and culture in relation to safety. Provide technical safety expertise in risk management, learning and investigation, and safety management systems and practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance. Build strong customer and stakeholder relationships to better understand their expectations and needs. Communicate and rolemodel the importance of having a customer focus to help others take greater accountability. Support the development of operationslevel strategies and improvement initiatives for material safety issues. Monitor performance, analyse data and define improvements for operational and contracting partners to identify emerging safety trends, safety improvements and recognition. Provide HSE expertise to line management on risks with safety aspects and impacts. Ensure timely and accurate reporting as per business and legislative requirements. Lead, coach and participate in field leadership activities to support and provide technical guidance to build a safety leadership culture and enhance understanding of compliance relevant to company and legal requirements. About You You will be a selfmotivated professional with a solid record of accomplishment of achieving safety performance through influence, coaching and mentoring. You Will Also Have Minimum of Cert IV in OHS, tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience in health, safety or risk; Diploma preferred. A passion for safety and a culture of care. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence at multiple levels in an organisation. Strong HSE Management System experience, problemsolving and data analytical skills. Significant experience leading and supporting safety initiatives. Valid unrestricted drivers licence. Experience with HS management tools. Coaching and mentoring skills with a desire to help people with a lens of continuous improvement. Ability to selfmotivate, manage priorities and consume data to effectively deliver safety support. Experience in the mining industry will be highly regarded. Applications close: 5pm Tuesday 12th May 2026.
