Cultural safety will be paramount in this model, with targeted recruitment of midwives from a similar CALD background. The midwives recruited to this model will provide antenatal midwifery care aimed at optimising pregnancy. This is achieved through building relationships and trust which can lead to improved compliance with diabetes management, weight management, education specific to women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), preparation for pregnancy, labour and the immediate postnatal period including breastfeeding preparedness and education.
