This is a 12month fixedterm, fulltime position commencing Term2,2026 with possible extension and/or permanency. The Role As an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) you will assist teachers in delivering planned education programmes and encouraging a supportive and inclusive learning environment. You will help students access the educational programme and increase their understanding of the multicultural nature of the learning environment. You will act as a liaison between the community and school to develop an educational programme relevant to both educational and cultural needs, and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studentsparticularly those at riskthrough mentoring and pastoral care to encourage participation and achievement at school. The successful applicant should be culturally responsive and assist school staff in the implementation of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. Responsibilities Assist teachers in delivering planned education programmes. Encourage a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Help students access the educational programme. Increase students understanding of multicultural learning. Act as a liaison between the community and school to develop a culturally relevant educational programme. Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, especially those at risk. Mentor and provide pastoral care to encourage participation and achievement. Assist school staff in implementing the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. Qualifications & Eligibility Aboriginal identity is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section50d of the Equal Opportunity Act1984 (WA). Be an Australian or NewZealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Educations Screening Unit before you start. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the histories, languages, social and cultural protocols of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive strategies that support the wellbeing, engagement and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and liaise with parents/caregivers, families, teachers and community members. Demonstrated knowledge of building culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of culturally responsive education programmes and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or allied health professionals.
