OverviewWe are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2027. As an Education Assistant Special Needs it is highly desirable that applicants possess the ability to take initiative and proactively respond to changing student needs. The ability to work independently, and at times without supervision; and respond effectively to challenging behaviours are also highly desirable. You should possess the ability to collaborate with teachers, parents and carers, and other colleagues, to create an inclusive environment and engaging programs for students. Education Assistants are provided ongoing opportunities to participate in professional learning opportunities to further build their skills and knowledge.Kelmscott SHS is a host school for the Specialised Learning Program: Autism (SLP-A). The Program provides students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who are capable of achieving success in a mainstream setting, with specialised support and intervention. The Program assists students to develop academic engagement and achievement, organisational skills, social cognition development, positive peer relationships, and emotional self-regulation. Education Assistants at Kelmscott SHS support the operation of the SLP-A while students are in their mainstream classes. A knowledge of rapport building strategies and student-centred practice is an advantage, and data collection forms a key component of daily processes.Additional contextSuitable applicants may work across contexts including mainstream classes, learning support, and the SLP-A. Ideally, you will possess knowledge of effective strategies to support students in different environments and be responsive to changing student needs. You will ideally be responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned education programs for students. This includes managing small groups of students under the direction of the teacher to assist students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, physical, and social skills.
