The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). Booderee National Park, with its coastal habitats is one of three national parks, leased by their Aboriginal owners to the Director of National Parks, and jointly managed by Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. In addition to ongoing management of the parks natural and cultural heritage, this branch also looks after Parks Australias corporate services from the office in Canberra including, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Customer Experience and Destination Planning. Beyond the spinifex sand plains of arid central Australia lies Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, one of three national parks leased by their Aboriginal owners to the Director of National Parks and jointly managed by Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. Parks Australia assists with ongoing management of the parks natural and cultural heritage. This branch also manages a rich and fascinating range of island ecosystems and habitats, including oceanic Pulu Keeling, Norfolk and Christmas Island National Parks. Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is located in the heart of the central Australian desert. The dual World Heritage listed park is managed jointly by Anangu Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. The Visitor & Tourism Services team is a section of the park responsible for the Park Entry Station, Cultural Centre, Media, Education and Interpretation as well as a range of other tourism programs including Commercial Tourism Operator permits and licenses. The key duties of the position include:Under general supervision and at the direction of the Team Leader Tourism, the Education and Interpretation Officer will: Coordinate and deliver the parks education and interpretation programs, including developing, updating and presenting high quality interpretive and educational content for the Cultural Centre, visitor programs, school programs, the Knowledge for Tour Guides program and tour guide workshops. Coordinate all Knowledge for Tour Guides accreditation activities, including scheduling sessions, maintaining records, preparing training materials and working collaboratively with industry partners. Manage and process all education program bookings through the Parks Australia trade portal system, including application handling, park pass administration, booking confirmations, invoicing and payment monitoring to ensure all accounts are finalised with no outstanding debt. Manage the Uluru Education inbox and respond to education enquiries and general visitor requests by email, phone or in person, providing accurate, timely and culturally informed information about the parks natural and cultural values. Collaborate with Traditional Owners and interpreters to ensure cultural knowledge, language and storytelling are accurately and respectfully incorporated into all education and interpretation materials. Assist in the development and design of interpretive resources such as brochures, signage and other visitor information materials. Mentor and support staff involved in the parks education and interpretation programs, including developing on the job learning materials and guiding new staff in program processes. Support stakeholder and industry relationships by assisting with visitor and tourism monitoring programs and distributing relevant communications across the tourism sector. Assist in the delivery of park events, special programs and VIP visits, ensuring well organised, culturally respectful visitor engagement. Provide monthly reporting on education program statistics, ensuring accurate record keeping and tracking of program delivery outcomes. Support the Visitor and Tourism Services team with ad hoc priority projects as required. Share and promote the vision of Traditional Owners, contributing to the exchange of knowledge, experience and skills between Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, community members and the public, including working respectfully with Pitjantjatjara and/or Yankunytjatjara speakers. Contribute effectively as a member of the joint management team for a World Heritagelisted national park and undertake other duties as directed by the Visitor and Tourism Services Manager.
