Role We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity at our ALS Environmental site. We are currently seeking an experienced Instrument Chemist to join our dedicated Organics team. Based at Wangara, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the team consistently delivers highquality results on time while striving to exceed expectations. This fulltime position encompasses a range of key responsibilities, including: Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Procedures Manual Supervision and training of laboratory staff Prioritising daily workloads Operation and maintenance of instrumentation Reporting of results in accordance with Quality Work Instructions Ensuring compliance with the laboratorys QC and HSE requirements Preparing standards for sample analysis Maintaining relevant documentation The Essentials Bachelor of Science or equivalent (Honours and Chemistry disciplines advantageous but all sciences backgrounds are encouraged to apply) At least 2 years experience in a commercial laboratory Previous experience operating with GC/FID, GCMS or LCMSMS would be advantageous Available to work Monday to Friday on either day or afternoon shifts, with the flexibility to occasionally work on Saturdays as required. Understanding of sample preparation for organics analysis for soil and water matrices highly regarded Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) A working knowledge of organic sample preparation techniques for Environmental samples. PFAS experience would be highly regarded. Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team Interest in method development, verification, and validation A working knowledge of lab safety requirements Ability to work under pressure in a team environment A keen interest in organic chemistry and associated analysis Desired Skills and Interests A demonstrated interest or personal hobby in areas such as computer building, circuitry, automation, Excel macros, scripting, or 3D printing Coding or programming capability (e.g. VBA, Python, R, SQL or similar) Exposure to or interest in robotics, AI, process automation or digital optimisation Working at ALS The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
