About The Division And Role The Victorian Power System Analysis group is accountable for planning the transmission system, making network investment recommendations, assessing the connection of new generators and loads in Victoria, and ensuring these investments do not adversely impact the power system as a whole. The group plays a key role in successfully navigating the energy future by determining investments and approaches that are in the best interest of consumers, and by acting as a trusted advisor for VicGrid in meeting its obligations as Transmission Network Service Provider in Victoria. Reporting into the Group Manager Victorian Power Systems Analysis you will oversee a team of highly skilled engineers delivering complex generation, demand and storage connection projects. These projects play a critical role in supporting a secure, reliable and affordable Victorian energy system as Australia transitions to net zero. Working closely with the Manager, Victorian Synchronous and Storage Connections, this role ensures a coordinated and consistent grid connection approach across all technology types. The position is central to enabling major energy connections in Victoria, ensuring projects are effectively integrated and operated within the network. Success in this role requires strong collaboration across AEMO and VicGrid, and trusted partnerships with connection proponents and network service providers across the National Electricity Market. As a leader, you will guide your team with integrity, authenticity and carefostering an inclusive environment and empowering delivery of high quality technical advice and assessments. This role sits within the Victorian Power Systems Analysis group and contributes to the broader enterprise leadership team. What You Will Be Doing Enable a team of 12 power system engineers (graduate to specialist) delivering timely, highquality connection modelling and technical advice for the Victorian power system. Partner with AEMO, VicGrid and industry stakeholders to develop innovative approaches for assessing new technologies and system impacts. Represent AEMO and VicGrid in joint planning activities with internal teams, network service providers and external stakeholders. Provide technical advisory support to VicGrid and the Victorian Government on integrating generation, load and storage into the network. Build and oversee a highperforming, inclusive team aligned to AEMOs values of connection, character and commitment. Oversee team operations including budget, workforce planning, risk and performance management, ensuring delivery outcomes and effective escalation. Youll help shape how the connections space evolves, bringing fresh thinking and leaving a genuine imprint on the system. Working across complex and often competing stakeholder priorities, youll act as a trusted voicetranslating technical insight, asking the right questions and influencing outcomes to protect system integrity. You will build team capability, set clear direction and drive delivery. While Melbourne is preferred, were open on location across our offices for the right person with strong Australian energy market experience. An understanding of the Victorian regulatory and connections landscape is desirable. What You Will Bring To The Role Education/Certificates Appropriate tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline (for example, engineering, physics, mathematics or other discipline relevant to power systems analysis). Awarded, or eligibility to apply for, relevant engineering registration (including RPEV). Experience & Knowledge Significant experience in modelling generator and power system behaviour, delivering technical solutions using tools such as PSCAD, PSSE (V34+), DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SSAT, Mudpack and Matlab. Proven experience leading geographically dispersed technical teams, including recruitment, performance management, budgeting, reporting and mentoring. Deep expertise in the electricity industry and regulatory environment, particularly generator technical requirements. Strong clientfacing experience with welldeveloped interpersonal, negotiation and problemsolving skills. Detailed understanding of the political, legal and regulatory frameworks governing the energy sector, including Victorian jurisdictional arrangements. Experience engaging with government agencies, contributing to policy development, and supporting the planning and construction of power system assets; familiarity with the National Electricity Rules (NER) is highly desirable.
