Smiths Detection is a global leader in threat detection and screening technologies, supporting customers across aviation, ports and borders, defence, urban security, and critical infrastructure. We are seeking an Entry Level Field Service Engineer to join our Field Service team, supporting the maintenance, servicing, and installation of X-ray and trace detection systems at customer sites.This role is field-based and requires frequent travel to customer locations, including high-security environments. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical aptitude, customer focus, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a high-performing team.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Field Service Engineer is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:Travel to customer sites across metropolitan, regional, and remote locations, including long-distance driving, air travel, and overnight staysTroubleshoot, service, and repair Smiths Detection X-ray and trace detection equipment at customer sites and service centresPerform scheduled preventative maintenance in accordance with service contracts and maintenance plansRespond to equipment faults and corrective maintenance requests in line with contractual KPIsTest equipment components and circuitry using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, laptops, and embedded equipment softwareDiagnose root causes of mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults (up to 24 volts)Replace mechanical components including belts, rollers, motors, and assembliesSafely handle and manoeuvre X-ray sources (generators) and other heavy components using approved lifting aidsOpen, inspect, clean, vacuum, de-grease, repair, and replace internal machine componentsAssist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment in collaboration with internal project teams, subcontractors, and customer stakeholdersComplete service documentation, reports, and job records accurately and in a timely mannerParticipate in required technical, safety, compliance, and job-related training (online and in-person)Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environmentRespond professionally to customer, vendor, subcontractor, and internal stakeholder enquiries (verbal and written)Manage spare parts usage and update inventory records in relevant IT systemsAttend internal team meetings, safety briefings, and technical discussionsEnsure tools and test equipment are maintained, calibrated, and fit for useParticipate in the regional on-call roster, providing remote or on-site technical support as requiredUndertake additional duties aligned with the role as business needs evolveQualifications, Skills & ExperienceCertificate III Trade Qualification or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, or IT-related disciplineProvisional or Unrestricted Drivers LicenceAbility to obtain and maintain required security clearances and industry licencesBasic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Willingness to work autonomously, travel extensively, and support after-hours work when requiredStrong communication and customer service skillsHigh level of teamwork, professionalism, and safety awarenessExperienceIndicative experience: 02 years (entry-level candidates encouraged to apply) #J-18808-Ljbffr
