About the Opportunity The Underwriting Risk Manager sits within our BCC entity and is responsible for leading the risk underwriting function, overseeing the assessment and management of buyer and country risks. This role will develop strategies to maintain a balanced and profitable portfolio. The Underwriting Risk Manager is a key relationship manager for brokers and clients on risk matters and provides technical guidance and development for the risk underwriting team. Lead, coach, and develop underwriters and ensuring professional growth and technical expertise Oversee the assessment, approval, and ongoing monitoring of buyer and country credit risk exposures across all trade credit insurance policies, the risk appetite and underwriting authority. Review and authorise complex cases escalated by risk underwriters, ensuring consistent application of risk standards and providing guidance as needed. Monitor and review the risk portfolio, including buyer exposures, overdue notifications, insolvency events, and sector developments. Develop and maintain risk assessment frameworks, analytical tools, and portfolio monitoring processes. Refine and implement risk strategies to maintain a balanced and profitable portfolio aligned with objectives. Review and update policies on Buyer Grading, Country Risk, and risk appetite; recommend changes as needed. Identify and analyse emerging risks, sector trends, and macroeconomic factors, providing strategic insights to management. Serve as a key contact for brokers, clients, and policyholders on risk-related matters, offering technical expertise and handling complex queries. Participate in client, broker, and prospect meetings to explain risk decisions and support sales growth. Provide risk input to underwriting teams, supporting new business and renewal targets. Assist with structuring solutions for complex or high-profile clients. Lead or participate in cross-functional projects focused on business development and portfolio optimisation. Prepare and deliver regular risk reports and analysis for senior management. Monitor key risk indicators ensuring compliance with underwriting standards. Analyse and present risk data to support business strategy and regulatory requirements. Drive continual improvement of risk processes, workflows, and systems. Oversee audits and risk reviews, implementing recommendations to strengthen controls. Ensure all activities comply with regulatory standards and company policies. Maintain confidentiality and data protection in all risk underwriting activities. Stay current with industry trends, economic developments, and regulatory changes. Represent the company at industry events and conferences as a subject matter expert in credit risk underwriting. About You As our preferred candidate, you will have: Proven ability to assess complex buyer and country risks and make sound commercial decisions. Experience managing and developing a risk or underwriting team. Strong knowledge of market and economic trends, and their impact on portfolio risk. Strong experience effectively communicating with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders. Bringing 10 years experience within risk underwriting, credit assessment, or trade credit insurance Experience including leadership or management roles. Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field (essential). Advanced insurance or risk management qualification such as ANZIIF, CII Whats in it for you?
