Apply nowShortlist About the role As a Marine Technician, youll be a valued member of a team, operating and maintaining the marine equipment that allows the Army to successfully carry out exercises and operations. What you''ll do Working with other qualified technicians, youll inspect, repair, modify and recondition a wide variety of Army Marine Equipment. Youll get to work in a range of different environments, from Army bases around Australia to locations out in the field on deployments, exercises and humanitarian operations. Regardless of your civilian qualifications, youll also undertake valuable military trade training. Key InformationDutiesTraining and skillsProgressionAdditional informationLocations Duties Your duties may include: diagnosing, maintaining and repairing the Army''s fleet of marine equipment performing safety and technical inspections on marine safety equipment and large vessels working as part of a crew on a vessel working with specialised teams on advanced Vessel HVAC, electronic and hydraulic systems general soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, navigation, and camouflaging vehicles and field equipment. Training and skills With paid training, you''ll gain all the skills you need to tackle anything this rewarding role throws at you. Plus, youll be supported by professional and enthusiastic Army personnel wholl provide the necessary guidance to ensure youre prepared. Youll have opportunities to grow your technical knowledge through a range of specialist courses covering equipment and systems such as Army Special Operations watercraft and LARC V amphibious vehicles. This training and support continues as your career progresses, equipping you with qualifications and a range of skills that will benefit you, wherever your career takes you. If you dont hold a relevant qualification, youll consolidate your Initial Employment Training (IET) with on-the-job training and work towards a Certificate III Marine Engine Driver (Maritime Engineer). Progression Opportunities for progression and upskilling continue throughout your career. As you progress, the Army will provide you with development opportunities to assist you with your increasing leadership responsibility, as well as further education and specialised training to strengthen your skillset. This will help you to command and run a highly skilled team of soldiers and the employment of their equipment. Additional information In-Service Information In the Army, this role is known as: Marine Technician Employment Category Number (ECN): 222 Employment Category: Combat Support Corps: Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Locations Following training, your initial posting will likely be to an Army Maritime Unit in Darwin or Townsville. Subsequent postings can be to various locations and units throughout Australia, including Special Operations Units and Amphibious Battalions. My background can be checkedTo obtain the minimum-security clearance, you must have lived in Australia or have a checkable background for the past 10 years. I have completed Year 10Youll need to have passed Year 10 English and Maths. Qualified candidates will need to have completed a suitable trade qualification and have relevant experience. I am reasonably fit and healthyKeeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. Youll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but dont worry, we''ll give you tips to help you prepare. My drivers licence is not suspended or cancelledYou dont need a drivers licence for this role but if you have one, it cant be suspended or cancelled.
