Primary objective The Youth Justice Act 2005 provides the Department of Corrections the statutory responsibility for supervising young people who are subject to supervision under a non-custodial order and monitoring the compliance of young people subject to an order with conditions. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Supervise, monitor compliance, and provide services for young people, residing at a bail support facility or elsewhere in the community, that are in alignment with those mandated under the Youth Justice Act 2005 to support young people to reduce offending and minimise future contact with the criminal justice system. 2. Undertake the provision and submission of accurate and timely court reports (including representing the Department in Court) to the Youth Justice Court, Supreme Court and/or Parole Board of the Northern Territory. 3. Provide compliance management support to young people who are subject to orders of the Youth Justice Court, Supreme Court, or Parole Board. 4. Have meaningful regular contact with the frequency based on the young persons assessed risk level. 5. Develop a Throughcare plan for young people subject to an order with community supervision conditions and include goals that align with the young persons criminogenic needs and include actions that will help the young person accomplish their goals and address their criminogenic needs. 6. Build relationships and communicate in a culturally competent manner with young people, their families, and communities to provide young people with support, a positive direction and role modelling that will assist them in becoming law abiding members of the community. 7. Follow policies and procedures; and work as part of a team to deliver community youth justice program objectives. 8. Maintain personal safety and make decisions in accordance with the Department of Corrections Work, Health, and Safety (WHS) policies and all relevant legislation including the Youth Justice Act; the Care and Protection of Children Act; and the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) Code of Conduct. 9. Participate in the Departments After-Hours Service. Selection criteriaEssential 1. Working knowledge of the youth justice system (or similar) and demonstrated experience working with vulnerable at- risk youth (youth services, diversion, justice, or other similar work areas). 2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as sound administrative and computer skills. 3. Strong organisation, time management and prioritisation skills to ensure tasks are completed to set schedules. 4. Demonstrated success working in a cross-cultural team environment. 5. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills and an ability to provide individualised case management services to improve outcomes for young people. 6. Highly developed interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships with the capacity to engage a diverse stakeholder group. 7. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills and the ability to motivate staff, lead change and influence others to achieve outcomes. 8. A current NT Drivers Licence and able to drive a NT Government vehicle.
