About The Role The Salvos Funerals team is seeking a compassionate, organised, and servicedriven Funeral Planner to support families during one of lifes most difficult moments. In this meaningful role, you will guide and arrange funeral services with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity. Reporting to the Operations Manager, your role is responsible for managing funeral arrangements, handling all legal documentation/permits, and supporting families through prepaid funerals. The opportunity is permanent full time based in Redfern and requires participation in an afterhours phone support roster, including occasional weekend shifts. Number Of Positions Available 1 Key Responsibilities Work closely with families to plan and arrange funerals, providing pastoral care and empathetic guidance. Coordinate all aspects of funeral services, including venues, celebrants, clergy, cemeteries, floral tributes, media notices, and required legal documentation. Manage administration requirements, including death registration, permits, records, and prepaid funeral documentation. Organise and personalise memorial services by facilitating discussions with relatives regarding style of funeral, flower arrangements and other requirements. Efficiently and effectively respond to all emails & telephone enquiries and ensure that enquiries are responded to within agreed timeframes. Provide afterhours phone support that is required on a roster/rotation basis (occasional weekend). About You You are a compassionate communicator with strong organisational skills and the ability to guide families through difficult moments. You work confidently both independently and in a team, and bring maturity, empathy, and professionalism to every interaction. Key Capabilities Demonstrated experience in funeral planning or related fields (grief/trauma experience highly regarded). Exceptional communication skills and high emotional intelligence, with the ability to support grieving families. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite and experience using computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Word, Excel). Demonstrated ability to put people at ease, ability to remain calm and maintain composure under stressful circumstances. Requirements Of The Role A current drivers licence with a safe driving record including the ability to regularly travel. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends (where needed), and extended hours. Ability to perform tasks that require physical strength such as lifting caskets, setting up and dismantling equipment.
