Clario connects Australian-qualified lawyers with leading in-house legal teams on a flexible and permanent basis. We are on the hunt for a Legal Counsel to join our client in Sydney! Working with our client, a leading financial services and payments provider, you will join a fast-paced and highly collaborative business, supporting a broad range of commercial, corporate and regulatory legal matters. Reporting to the Senior Group Corporate Counsel, this role will suit a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys balancing day-to-day legal support with broader legal operations, regulatory and process improvement work. You will play a key role in advising the business on its legal rights and obligations, helping to identify practical legal solutions, reduce risk and support the business as it navigates a complex regulatory environment. Key Responsibilities Provide legal advice and guidance across a broad range of commercial, corporate and regulatory matters. Advise the business on its legal rights and obligations, identifying solutions to eliminate or mitigate legal and regulatory risk. Review, draft and negotiate vendor contracts and other commercial arrangements, safeguarding the businesss interests. Support the legal team and broader business in monitoring new and proposed legislation, regulation and regulatory activity that may affect operations. Help ensure regulatory changes are embedded effectively across the business, with appropriate legal oversight where required. Participate in the development and review of company policies on legal and regulatory issues. Proactively initiate proposals for legal operations improvements, cost reductions and efficiency benchmarks. Work closely with internal stakeholders to provide clear, practical and commercially focused advice in a fast-moving environment. About You A qualified lawyer with 3+ years experience as a corporate or commercial lawyer. Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills. Strong understanding of the financial services legislative and regulatory environment. Ability to interpret complex regulatory frameworks and apply them in a practical, commercial context. Strong attention to detail, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, able to manage ambiguity, think quickly under pressure and remain calm as priorities shift. A proactive, collaborative approach and genuine interest in contributing to a dynamic legal team.
