The PICU staff specialist ensures the delivery of excellent clinical care for critically ill children and their families. Expectations of the role include commitment to excellence in interdisciplinary care, quality improvement, education and research within the department as well as the hospital and wider paediatric intensive care community in NSW, Australia and internationally. Provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff. Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Training and recent experience in paediatric intensive care and extracorporeal therapies (ECLS, CRRT, PLEX). Demonstrated ability to work effectively in and lead a multidisciplinary team (including subspecialist teams). Demonstrated effective people skills and clinical communication with patients, families and the clinical teams through the use of information technology, written and verbal skills. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education and training, and quality improvement, and research. Availability to participate in an oncall roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time. Desirable criteria demonstrated interest/progression towards developing expertise in any of the following areas: 1. education and training 2. neuro critical care 3. oncology and bone marrow transplant medicine 4. respiratory medicine including flexible bronchoscopy.
