We believe the best version of you is the one that''s true to who you are and that''s the you we want working alongside us.We value flexibility; this role can be performed at any of the AER offices located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, or Sydney and is available on a fulltime, parttime or jobshare basis.Applicants from diverse backgrounds including First Nations peoples, people with disability and those from different cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.What you will do as the Principal LawyerManage court and tribunal proceedings involving the AER, including managing external legal providers.Provide advice on litigation issues and/or on energy regulatory matters and administrative law issues under Australia''s energy laws.Contribute to the ongoing development of the branch as a standalone legal practice.Supervise, train, or mentor others, including staff who are new to the work of the AER, including developing and providing professional development activities for staff, second counsel and second chair other lawyers.About You In order to succeed in the role, you will have:Demonstrated experience leading a team or similar role in a fastpaced and complex peoplecentred organisation.Admission as a practitioner, however described, of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory. You must maintain a practising certificate issued in an Australian jurisdiction.Extensive experience (generally 7+ years postadmission or equivalent) as a lawyer.Demonstrated experience working with a high level of independence and autonomy, and under broad supervision when providing legal advice.An ability to get across complex legislation quickly; including a willingness to explore, collect and harness new information.The Following Job Specific Criteria Are Also Highly DesirableExperience in regulatory litigation, administrative law and decision making, statutory interpretation, and/or energy law.Salary: $168,148 - $178,224 (plus 15.4% superannuation).Contact Officer: Geoff PurvisSmith, 02 6243 3091.Applications Close: 11:00pm (AEST) Sunday, 17 May 2026.#J-18808-Ljbffr
