Job Description

Waverley Council is looking for an experienced Waste Engagement Officer, who will design and deliver initiatives and programs to increase the uptake of new residential waste services such as FOGO, improve recycling and minimise waste. You will work across the organisation and with the community to turn strategy into practical and measurable outcomes in line with Waverleys resource recovery objectives. Permanent Full Time 35 hours per week Based in Alexandria Community focused, values driven service Close to public transport A supportive and inclusive work culture Wellness programs: flu shots, skin checks, annual wellbeing fair Access to Fitness Passport discounted gym memberships In this role, you will: Develop and implement programs and projects aligned to the 2025-2032 Resource Recovery & Waste Strategy Design initiatives using behaviour change principles to increase resource recovery and waste services uptake Deliver education and engagement initiatives that promote waste avoidance and reduction Support improved recycling practices and contamination reduction Coordinate activities that ensure safe and compliant waste disposal Monitor programs performance and report outcomes Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to increase circularity What youll bring Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. science, sustainability education, environmental management, communications and social sciences) or demonstrated equivalent competencies gained through extensive work experience. A sound understanding of current environmental and/or waste management issues relevant to local government. Experience in applying behaviour change frameworks and interventions that leverage attitudes and behaviours towards positive environmental outcomes. Demonstrated experience in managing and evaluating waste and/or environmental projects and programs within budget and agreed timeframe. Demonstrated experience in communicating with residents and community groups. An ability to identify and develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent communication skills including group facilitation skills, and skills in promotion and engagement. Class C Drivers Licence. Understanding of and commitment to EEO.
