Lead Major Grid Projects, Big Budgets & Complex Builds 04th May 2026 About the Role We''re looking for a handson Project Engineer with proven experience delivering high voltage substation projects from design through testing and commissioning to energisation. You''ll own the technical coordination, schedule, and logistics interface for major plant delivery including the critical path from port arrival to final placement on site. Key Responsibilities Project Delivery & Technical Coordination Lead engineering and construction for 66kV500kV substations (switchyards, transformers, GIS/AIS, control buildings) Manage interfaces across civil, structural, electrical, and protection & control disciplines Review/approve construction methodologies, ITPs, and asbuilt/quality documentation Coordinate RFIs, NCRs, and technical queries with clients, consultants, and network providers Monitor schedule, cost, and quality; report progress and risks to the Project Manager Develop and maintain construction programs (Primavera P6/MS Project), Scurves, and resource plans Track cost, productivity, and earned value across construction packages Lead project meetings and produce clientfacing reports (HSE, progress, quality, schedule) Support tenders with constructability input, staging, logistics, and resourcing Travel to and work onsite during delivery Equipment Logistics & Site Delivery Manage endtoend logistics for major HV equipment (transformers, GIS/AIS, breakers, CTs/VTs, control systems) Coordinate imports, customs clearance, quarantine, and port release Plan oversize/overmass transport (route surveys, permits, escorts) Oversee site delivery, laydown, and heavy lifts (crane, skid/jack & slide) Ensure equipment integrity (inspections, testing, damage prevention) Maintain full traceability from port to installation HSE & Compliance Implement HSE plans, SWMS, and highrisk work controls Ensure compliance with AS/NZS, IEC/IEEE, and NHVR requirements Lead site inspections and contractor prequalification (transport/lifting) Maintain uptodate quality and O&M documentation Required Experience & Qualifications Must Have Engineering or Construction Management qualification (or equivalent experience) 4+ years in HV substation construction, including 2+ years in Australia Experience on 132kV projects (ideally up to 500kV) Strong logistics experience with large HV equipment (e.g. transformers >50MVA, GIS) Knowledge of heavy haulage (OSOM permits, escorts, transport planning) Familiarity with Australian standards and major network providers (e.g. Transgrid, Powerlink, Western Power, AEMO) White Card, drivers licence, and willingness to travel Preferred RPEQ/CPEng (or working towards) HV switching awareness Experience across D&C, EPC, and brownfield projects Proficiency in Primavera P6/MS Project, Excel, and design tools (AutoCAD, GIS, PLSCADD) Strong stakeholder, negotiation, and written communication skills Experience with dangerous goods and biosecurity for imported equipment What We Offer Career Growth: Lead major substation, transmission and renewable energy projects supporting Australia''s renewable energy transition Project Variety: Work on greenfield and brownfield HV projects from 132kV to 500kV Benefits: Competitive salary packaging and allowances with ongoing professional development Development: Paid professional memberships, chartership support, and leadership pathways Culture: Safetyfirst team that values work life balance, practical engineering, technical excellence and getting it done right for the right cost with reference to the budget.
