Job Description Teacher Special Education Vision (Itinerant) Southern Cross Public School (0000B8GC) Location Regional NSW Number of Positions 1 Closing Date 20-May-2026 Job Category Teachers Organisation Teaching Service Position Information The Itinerant Support Teacher Vision (ISTV) provides support in making the curriculum accessible to students with confirmed vision disabilities in preschools, primary schools, high schools, schools for specific purposes and support classes within the Northern Rivers region of NSW. ISTVs work in a multidisciplinary team with students, their teachers, parents and carers, school learning and support teams and other professionals. They conduct student assessments, participate in review meetings, support school staff in making teaching and learning adjustments, provide professional learning for school staff, explicitly teach relevant areas of the expanded core curriculum such as selfadvocacy, independent living skills and safe movement techniques, and commit to relevant ongoing professional learning to develop and maintain expertise in this specialised role. The successful applicant will be required to travel by personal transport to regional and rural schools to support students with visual impairments and will require a current drivers licence and reliable vehicle. This fulltime position is based at Southern Cross Public School, located in the NorthEastern NSW, which has a student enrolment of 364, including 9% Aboriginal students and offering four support classes. Specific Selection Criteria Approval to teach Visual Impairment (Primary) and Visual Impairment (Secondary). High level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a proven capacity to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and external agencies, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department of Educations relevant disability policies as well as the policies and protocols supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in culturally safe environments and respecting cultural practices. Experience in teaching the use of braille, assistive technology and associated software including iOS applications to support access to the curriculum, as well as the ability to codevelop and monitor personalised learning and other relevant plans for students with visual impairments. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
