Ultraremote, nomadic work across West Arnhem Land Guide plans to come to fruition and feel a sense of achievement in supporting Indigenous Rangers to establish access to country and seasonal camps. 3 weeks on 1 week off Drive In Drive Out The Organisation Warddeken Land Management, founded by the Traditional Owners of the Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area in 2007, is an Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit company committed to integrating traditional ecological knowledge with Western science. Operating from remote homeland communities in west Arnhem Land, we provide employment for over 200 Indigenous people who engage in vital projects, including fire management, carbon abatement, weed and feral animal control, rock art and ecological conservation, and cultural heritage management. The Opportunity You would spend long stretches living and working on very remote Aboriginal clan estates in west Arnhem Land. Your job is to help Traditional Owners get back onto Country by reopening and maintaining access like bush roads and tracks and by setting up and fixing basic camps and outstations. Day to day, youd be planning and organising works, moving gear and supplies, supervising Contractors and working handson with Rangers to build, repair and maintain things like shelters, water systems, toilets, power and fuel storage. Youd solve problems as they come up, often far from help and make practical decisions on the ground. Youd also work closely with Aboriginal people, listening first, explaining plans clearly and making sure works are done in the right way and at the right pace. It suits someone who enjoys remote work, practical outcomes and autonomy and who is comfortable living simply while delivering real improvements that make life on-Country possible. This is a Full-Time, Ongoing. Roster: 152 hours worked in a 28-day cycle (21 days on 7 days off). To be reviewed after 6 months based on the practicalities of this new role. Location:The Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) formsa significant part of Australia''s National Reserve System. Covering1,394,951 hectares of spectacular stone and gorge country on the Arnhem Plateau immediately east of Kakadu National Park. Warddeken Land Management Ltd. operates out of the remote communitiesof Kabulwarnamyo,Manmoyi and Mamaradwerre and employs up to 130 Indigenous rangers a year on a casual basis. Rangers work on a variety of projects including fire management and carbon abatement, weed and feral animal control, rock art conservation, education and cultural heritage management. Passing on traditional ecological knowledge to younger generations is a key role for rangers as they act as important role models in their communities. This is a General Restricted Area where Alcohol restrictions are in effect. The role is based in Darwin with extended periods in West Arnhem Land. About You You will need to be comfortable living and working remotely for extended periods, often in very isolated conditions with limited facilities. You enjoy a simple, nomadic lifestyle and are practical, adaptable and calm when plans change. You will have experience working in Arnhem Land or similar remote, crosscultural environments and understand how to work respectfully alongside Aboriginal people. You know the importance of listening first, clear communication and doing things the right way on Country. You will bring handson experience in works management, civil or earthmoving operations, bush roadworks or remote infrastructure delivery. You are confident planning jobs, coordinating logistics, supervising contractors and working safely with plant, equipment and vehicles. You are selfmotivated and organised, able to plan longterm while also solving problems on the ground. You are comfortable leading small teams, training and supporting staff and taking responsibility for getting work done in challenging environments. You hold a current drivers license, are an experienced fourwheeldriver and are willing and able to travel and camp remotely as part of your role.
