The position of Caretaker is based at Amelie House, Warwick St, a facility providing accommodation to women in Hobart experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Reporting to the House Manager, the Caretaker will assist in providing a safe and supportive service, encouraging residents on a path towards independence and longer-term housing. The Caretaker is responsible for site maintenance, cleaning, site logistics and stock monitoring and ordering. Working closely with the whole house team, the Caretaker will attend to whole of site cleaning, minor facility maintenance, coordination of external trades and services, consumable control and ordering and the logistics involved in operating Amelie House. This role involves close interaction with residents, within the house. Well-developed communication skills, along with clear understanding and implementation of professional boundaries is key for this role. Essential Requirements Demonstrated previous experience in cleaning, general maintenance, guest operations or facility management, preferably in a community services setting. Experience working with cohorts experiencing homelessness or in a social justice setting would be advantageous. Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and privacy principles. Exceptional written, oral communication and interpersonal skills, including effectively communicating with stakeholders from a diverse range of backgrounds and groups. Effective time management and organisation skills, with the ability to motivate yourself and others. Effective use of initiative to proactively suggest solutions to problems and to motivate and communicate effectively, using compassion and empathy to build capacity. Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to take direction, learn and collaborate with others as a part of a cohesive team. Demonstrated and effective computer literacy skills and the ability to adapt to and learn new systems quickly. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in work priorities, styles and environment, recognising the need to be responsive in a context that can change rapidly. Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society. Understanding of Child Safeguarding plus WHS standards and principles. The successful applicant must hold a current compliant National Police Check, along with a valid Working with Vulnerable People Card or the ability to obtain.
