Production Underwriter, Commercial Insurance, Construction FocusThe Production Underwriter, Commercial Insurance will be responsible for establishing relationships, driving sales and placing profitable business in the region and beyond. Using specialized knowledge and expertise in products and the industry, the Production Underwriter will deliver strategic client growth, recommend, and implement profitable action plans, and develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers. Demonstrated success at strategic thinking, hustle and sales is critical. This role reports to the Regional Underwriting Manager.The Production Underwriter, Commercial Insurance will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships, driving sales, and securing profitable business within the region. Leveraging specialized knowledge and expertise in commercial insurance products and industry trends, with a strong understanding of construction underwriting, the Production Underwriter will contribute to strategic client growth, recommend and implement effective action plans, and cultivate meaningful relationships with brokers. Success in this role requires a proven track record of strategic thinking, a strong work ethic, and a sales-driven mindset. This role reports to the Regional Underwriting Manager.Job ResponsibilitiesSales: Strategic Business Development and Product InnovationIdentifies new growth opportunities with key brokers and ensure they are qualified and meet with the organization's appetiteDevelop broker clientele by networking to identify new clients and generate lists of prospective focus brokersConduct marketing visits to build broker relationships and advertise B&W offeringsMaintain existing broker relationships to solicit renewals and generate new businessDevelop marketing strategies to compete with other companiesUtilize other Burns & Wilcox offices via referrals to place businessEnsure prompt and courteous client service is provided to all agents and brokersWork collaboratively with other Underwriters on the team develop ownership of a book of regional businessIdentify new growth opportunities with key brokers, ensuring alignment with the organization's appetite and qualifications.Expand broker clientele through networking to discover new clients and create targeted lists of prospective brokers.Conduct marketing visits with focus brokers to further promote B&Ws offerings.Collaborate with the team to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan that drives growth and enhances business opportunities.Stay informed on market conditions to deliver continued relevance and competitiveness.Provide an exceptional level of service and expertise to broker partners, ensuring their needs are met with professionalism and attention to detail.Work closely with team members to develop expertise, identify cross-selling opportunities, and drive growth within the region.Underwriting: Analyzing Risk and Placing BusinessMaintain knowledge of carriers underwriting guidelines and/or brokerage marketsObtain adequate underwriting information for quoting, binding, and issuingReview coverage requirements, prices, and conditionsNegotiate prices, terms, and conditionsSubmit quality submissions to marketsProvide consultation to brokers regarding differences between quotes and coveragesPromptly review inspections to verify quality of riskEnsure all files are documented properly to avoid potential E&OsMaintain carrier relationshipsStay abreast of underwriting practices and maintain licenses and certificationsKeep up-to-date with carriers' underwriting guidelines and brokerage market appetites.Collect necessary underwriting information for quoting, binding, and issuing policies.Review coverage requirements, pricing, and conditions.Underwrite within B&W Guidelines Negotiate prices, terms, and conditions with carriers.Submit high-quality submissions to markets.Provide guidance to brokers on differences between quotes and coverages.Promptly review inspections to ensure the quality of risk.Maintain proper documentation of all files to mitigate potential E&O risks.Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with brokers.Stay current with underwriting practices and maintain required licenses and certifications.QualificationsBachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experienceCIP or equivalent industry experienceProvincial License or eligibility for obtainingHigh Industry Participation5+ years of Commercial Insurance experienceStrong underwriting expertise strongly preferredStrong knowledge of domestic and international Commercial marketsCompensation PackageCompetitive base compensation & opportunities to participate in highly lucrative sales incentive bonus planEmployer paid Health and Wellness benefits including Health Care and Lifestyle Spending AccountEmployer matched RRSPEmployer paid continuing education courses, designations and licensingMany opportunities for career advancement including internal training and development through our Kaufman Institute, internal progression, and management opportunitiesAbout the CompanyWhen someone needs insurance coverage for the unique, the unusual, or the unconventional, they come to Burns & Wilcox Canada.
