As part of our commitment to product quality and reliability, we are seeking a passionate Compliance and Testing Lead to join our team. This role reports to the Director of Quality, Reliability & Sustainability and will play a critical role in ensuring the compliance, reliability, and performance of our products and systemsAs the Compliance and Testing Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of global certification and compliance for lighting products across North America (UL, CSA), the EU and international markets (IEC, CE), and regional standards (CCC, SASO, and CB). You will play a critical role in ensuring our products meet all necessary regulatory and safety requirements, helping us maintain the highest standards of quality and safety for our customers.You will lead efforts in electronics validation, certification testing, and failure analysis, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the quality and reliability of our products and systems. Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing test methodologies, analyzing test data, identifying potential failure points, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role includes the management of direct reports.Key Responsibilities:Lead the Compliance and Testing team to achieve departmental KPIs and performance metrics.Manage two core functions: product compliance and certification testing, product verification and validation testing.Drive efforts to achieve UL DAP (Data Acceptance Program) certification for the testing laboratory.Serve as the primary point of contact at GVA Lighting, Inc. for all certification and regulatory compliance matters, including safety, EMC, performance, and environmental standards.Plan, coordinate, and execute product testing to ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations (UL, CSA, CE, CB Scheme, CCC and relevant regional requirements).Collaborate with product development teams from early design through to launch to ensure compliance and reliability are built into products.Monitor evolving regulations and standards, assess the impact on product design and testing, and implement required changes.Plan, design, and implement test procedures and protocols in alignment with industry standards and best practices.Liaise with external test labs and certification bodies to facilitate testing, resolve issues, and obtain certifications.Analyze validation test data, determine compliance with criteria, identify root causes of failures, and recommend corrective actions.Modify test methods or revise objectives to resolve test problems and improve outcomes.Participate in design reviews, providing input on functional requirements, robustness, and potential issues.Review technical documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.Maintain detailed and organized records of test procedures, results, and compliance documentation for audit and reference purposes.Operate and support the use of lab equipment (e.g., environmental chambers, vibration tables, electrical/control equipment, measuring instruments, data loggers).Promote a collaborative and supportive work environment with open communication and knowledge sharing.Conduct internal training sessions to raise awareness of compliance requirements and best practices across teams.Assess risks associated with non-compliance and propose effective mitigation strategies.Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in accordance with policies and safety standards.Perform other duties assigned in support of departmental and company objectives.Authority:Performing compliance testing and confirming product meeting compliance requirements.Performing product verification and validation activity and confirming that product meets specification and robustness criteria.Qualifications:Bachelors degree or higher in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.Minimum 3 years of experience in compliance engineering, preferably in lighting products or similar, with exposure to UL, CSA, CE, CB, CCC, and regional certifications (an asset).Strong knowledge of relevant lighting standards, regulations, and guidelines is a significant asset.Exceptional critical thinking skills and the ability to challenge standard requirements while working at the forefront of technological development in the industry.Familiarity with testing procedures and equipment.Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.Strong project management and organizational skills.Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal cross-functional teams and external certification bodies.
