Our esteemed client, a leading Law Firm in downtown Toronto is eagerly seeking a professional Legal Assistant to join their team immediately. If you have a minimum of 5 years experience in Employment Law and able to go into the office 4 days a week please read on.... As a Legal Assistant your primary responsibilities will include:Provide executive-level administrative support to lawyers and enhance office effectivenessPrepare/transcribe, edit, format, and revise correspondence, memoranda, reports, litigation documents, forms, and other documentationProofread documents/correspondence, check for appropriate formatting, spelling, grammar, etc.Answer and direct phone callsAssist lawyers in the preparation and coordination of hearings and trialsRecord and monitor court appearance dates, pleadings and filing requirementsCoordinate service and filing of proceedings with agencies and courtsSchedule and coordinate discoveries, expert witnesses, mediations, or other court-designated hearingsMonitor and follow-up with evidence gatheringMaintain an in-depth knowledge of legal terminology, court rules and procedures, as well as labour and employment terminology, where applicableEnter dockets; liaise with the Accounting departmentPrepare and submit expense reports for lawyersTo be considered for the role of you should possess:Experience working as a legal assistantMinimum five (5) years of experience working in a law firm with a focus on civil litigation, employment law and particularly employment and labour litigationQualification of either Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diplomaFamiliarity with law, legal procedures, protocols, and court systemStrong knowledge of legal terminology and Ontarios Rules of Civil ProcedureHigh proficiency in EnglishAttention to detail and superior word processing, spelling, proofreading and editing skillsSuperior organizational skillsFast and accurate typing speed with excellent attention to detail and diligent proofreading skillsAbility to manage multiple activities and work under pressure to meet tight deadlinesDecisiveness and an ability to carry out with minimal supervision and directionProfessional attitude with maintaining strong client relationshipPossess a team-player attitude and keen enthusiasm, and ability to deal with all levels of staffProficiency using MS Office, Outlook and GhostPracticeExperience with Philips SpeechExec dictation is a plusKnowledge of electronic filing of documents through CaseLines and One-KeyHigh level of discretion and confidentialityHours of work are from 9 am to 5:30 pm.; flexibility required to meet important deadlines.
