Job Description

We work alongside our members to advance public policy solutions that ensure a sound and vibrant life and health insurance industry that allows Canadians to enjoy greater financial security and access to valuable supplementary health benefits. This position is currently a hybrid position where you are expected to attend the Toronto office at least 2 days a week. Flexible this is a position where you will have to approach an issue through different angles and the ability to analyze a situation or problem. Reporting to the Vice President, Risk and Chief Actuary, Research and Policy Actuary helps lead the research, planning, development and effective execution of advocacy efforts and the development of industry best practices related to the industrys interests in national / international regulatory capital requirements and reinsurance. They also provide advisory services and actuarial support for accounting and pension files. Prescription, dental and paramedical benefits, with employer paid premiums ~ A defined contribution pension plan with employer matching ~ Hybrid work model based out of our Toronto office Provides support to committees and leadership to various working groups related to capital and reinsurance files, working closely with members and other stakeholder groups to build consensus on industry policy positions. Plays a key advisory role and provides actuarial support for accounting and pension files. Develops and maintains favourable relationships with industry players, both within CLHIAs membership and other industry-related ''allies'' or advocacy partners/stakeholders, relevant to pursuing the industry''s policy interests with government and regulators.Contributes to a favourable regulatory/legislative environment by preparing appropriate written submissions or other communications to advance industry positions. Maintains awareness of developments from other international bodies including the IAIS and the FSB. Maintains an in-depth understanding of the environment, domestic and international, affecting member companies. Prepares analysis and actuarial models to demonstrate the implications/impact of legislative/regulatory changes or changes to standards on the industrys operations and develops and implements action plans to address industry concerns, including preparing related member communications. Contributes to corporate governance such as preparation of briefing materials for Corporate Services Standing Committee, member communications and other internal and external initiatives. Contributes to a favourable image of the life and health insurance industry as a subject matter expert for capital and reinsurance files by effectively communicating and promoting the industrys interests with stakeholder groups, government, and regulatory bodies. Represents the CLHIA in public forums to ensure industrys policy positions are advanced and participates in speaking engagements/presentations and public forums to increase awareness and raise CLHIAs profile. Bachelors degree in a related field Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA), or Associate of the CIA with extensive professional experience, or FSA or international designations Proven experience with risk finance and non-financial risk management, financial reporting, valuation pricing, and capital management Project management experience and/or industry consulting experience an asset Experience working in a team setting, with committees and ability to facilitate groups and project teams Working knowledge of French would be an asset Please submit your resume through LinkedIn, Indeed or email to request, we provide accommodation for applicants with disabilities in accordance with the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.
