We are looking for a nimble collaborator with a passion for all things video and LGBTQ2S+ issues, along with a proven track record of producing high-impact social video content.This is a part-time freelance position, reporting to the Senior Editor, Audience Engagement with further supervision from Xtras Managing Editor.What will you do?Work closely with our Senior Editor, Audience Engagement to produce quick turn-around social video content covering LGBTQ2S+ news, culture and analysis as aligned with Xtras editorial mandatePitch, write, edit and promote social video content on TikTok, YouTube and Xtras websiteKeep up with emerging trends in short-form social video and platformsCollaborate with the larger Xtra editorial team on multimedia content opportunitiesWho are you?The ideal candidate for this role has:A proven track record of producing high-impact social video contentDeep familiarity with TikTok and YouTube Shorts, as well as video editing software like CapCutA willingness to learn and adaptA sense of urgency and ability to work quickly and accurately and respond to the news cycleComfort working remotely and collaborating remotely within a small teamStrong attention to detail and news judgementStrong familiarity with LGBTQ2S+ issues in Canada and the U.S.On-camera experience/comfort welcome but not requiredthis is primarily a behind the camera roleA background in journalism, journalistic ethics and best practices preferred but not requiredjust a willingness to learn!Experience with audio editing or podcast production is an assetThis is a part-time freelance position, working three days a week at $35 CAD/hr for a total of no more than 21 hrs/week.
