WOMEN IN CRISIS (ALGOMA) INC.Invites applications for the position ofJunior Lawyer (Full-Time Contract Until March 31, 2027)Reporting to the Community Services Supervisor and the Executive Directors, the Staff Lawyer will provide a range of legal services for survivors of gender-based violence as they move through the family court process.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide a wide range of legal and legal support services to women with family law issues, including full representation, unbundled legal services, legal coaching, summary legal advice, assistance with court applications, affidavits, and legal documentation, court accompaniment and referrals.Assist with Legal Aid applications and communicationBuild relationships with community-based family law lawyers,courts, and community agencies.Maintain current legal knowledge and accurate recordsProvide mentorship and support to other project staff and volunteersOther tasks as appropriate as the project developsWORK SCHEDULE:37.5 hours per weekMonday to Friday 8:30AM to 5:00PM with one unpaid hour for lunch, with flexibility to accommodate evening groups.QUALIFICATIONS:Member in good standing with the Law Society of OntarioOne year of work experience as a family law lawyer or other relevant experience Familiarity with Ontario family law legislation and case law, including theDivorce Act, theChildrens Law Reform Act, theFamily Law Act, theFamily Law Rulesand evolving Provincial, Regional, and local Practice DirectionsBasic understanding of gender-based violenceStrong interpersonal and communication skillsGood organizational and research skillsDemonstrated written and oral advocacy skillsValid drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicleClear criminal record checkDIVERSITY STATEMENT:Women in Crisis (Algoma) Inc. is committed to creating a workforce that reflects the diversity of The City of Sault Ste.
