Summary:The ideal candidate will be someone who has a proven track record as commercial vehicle truck driver coupled with training/instructional skills to develop new recruits as well as existing drivers. The individual selected for this position will evaluate the driving skills of potential driver candidates. In addition, the Driver Trainer will conduct safety training according to XTL's well-defined training program for drivers. Through follow-up and coaching, the Driver Trainer will be an advocate for the required professional behaviors and expectations set forth by XTL.Responsibilities:1.Log AuditingCommence each day addressingE-Log conflicts, unidentified logs and uncertified logs.Take corrective action with drivers to prevent being in violation of the regulations. Document all training and corrective action.2.Investigate Telematic dataReview all telematic data for at risk behavior.Take corrective action with drivers.Document all training and corrective action.3.Circle Check & Driver Road Skill TestingPrepare a planned route that tests all the skills and elements ofsafe driving and professional behaviour.Conduct a thorough evaluation of drivers circle check and driving skills - documentedProvide coaching on any areas that need attention and have driver sign off4.Orientation & Mentor ProgramConduct new-hire safety & orientation training; including all safety and compliances policies and proceduresMaintain and update the Driver Handbook and relevant safety & compliance sectionsTrack training via AS400 and ensure certificate issuanceManage Driver supplies/inventory and records of recieptTrain MentorsCo-ordinate Mentor assignments with OperationsParticipate in Mentor Meeting5.30 / 60 / 90 + Annual ReviewBlitz AuditsMonitor drivers performance and provide coaching / corrective actionDocument progress at time of reviewConduct yard 'blitz's' to promote compliance awareness concerning: CT-PAT, Pre/Post Inspections/Log Book /3 point hand holdElevate to management any performance that is not responding to coaching / corrective actions6.Prevention / Retention / Continuous ImprovementParticipate in resolving system issues (PeopleNet / Mir2Mir / Speed Gauge)Participate in the development of training materials for new initiatives, equipment or regulationsCollaborate with other div. on methods to keep training fresh and relevantMaintain & promote training schedule including 'open classes' that are available to divers looking to refresh skillsPro-activelyinspect, road test and follow-up on all unseated trucks to ensure they are in proper orderParticipate in the monthly production of Driver Newsletter or bulletinsParticipate in Driver Safety meetings and proactive training initiativesParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives (quality, risk reduction, prevention)Coordinate with counter terminals in an effort to ensure driver handbooks are up-to-date and accurate7.Accidents On call to assist in responding to accidentsParticipate (as required) during accident investigationsInterview drivers for root cause and with the assistance of HR, prescribe corrective actionDocument all training and corrective actionSkills & AbilitiesKey competencies for this position include:Team player with an ability to take initiative and identify and/or recommend process/service improvements to management;Sense of accountability and responsibility;Ability to be flexible in adjusting to changing work priorities;Ability to lead, coach and motivate;Ability to adhere to all corporate policies and act as an advocate concerning these policies;Proven time management skills;Ability to maximize a positive XTL work experience for drivers;Requirements:Minimum 5 years of commercial vehicle driving experience; - Must have commercial vehicle driving experienceBe part of the mentor teamValid AZ license;Bilingual (required for Quebec-based positions);Strong knowledge of safety and compliance in transportation;Proven ability to instruct/teach/facilitate in a classroom setting and deliver training programs;Ability to work with technical tools such E-logs and compliance App'sAbility to clearly demonstrate current knowledge in the following subjects:Hours of Service / Fatigue preventionDangerous GoodsDefensive DrivingWHMIS/Health & Safety* XTL is an equal opportunity employer that promotes diversity in the workplace.
