Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Estimator for a Building General Contractor in Winnipeg. The ideal candidate is expected to have previous experience in the estimation of commercial, residential, and light industrial projects. The candidate will perform clear, detailed quantity take offs, obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors, assemble and submit accurate estimates and proposals to win profitable jobs.What we offerSalary: $90,000 to $130,000Job Type: Full-timeBenefits: 50% employer paid health & dental benefits; RSP contributionWhat You'll Do.Review documents and design blueprints to understand project requirementsIdentify and develop constructability requirements for project construction.Analyze design criteria and assist in recommending options for cost, engineering quality, and availability of materials.Identify and propose project risk and cost mitigation as well as the potential for project opportunities and cost savings.Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing all project costs, including materials, labor, and project durationPresent estimates to Cost and Project Control Manager to finalize estimate for executive approvalSelect and invite to tender trade partners assessed to be financially viable with adequate workforce and appropriate level of expertise to complete the work.Lead / manage the Kick-Off Meeting, weekly strategy meetings, and any formal meetings pertinent to ensuring the estimation process will meet the milestone dates established.Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.Lead a cross-functional team of support estimators and operational staff, assisting with planning their time, overseeing delegation and quality of work, and compiling all input required for projects.Understand potential pressures on fees and participate in discussions to accurately assess and calculate fees.Ensure compliance with company standards and procedures in all estimates and bidsKeep up with industry trends and new materials in known and new markets to ensure the company maintains competitive pricingWhat We're Looking For:You have a degree or diploma related to accounting or construction, and with at least 5 years combined experience conducting estimation for commercial and residential projects.You are proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, REVIT, Primavera, Bluebeam, and BIM (Building Information Modeling) software.You can read and interpret blueprints.You bid for tenders between $5 million and $50 million.You are familiar with Manitoba Building codes and you have experience with wood-frame, concrete and steel construction in Manitoba.You have strong knowledge of the subcontractor landscape in Manitoba.You have experience with Design Build, Construction Management and Lump Sum delivery type.You have strong understanding of research methodology, data analysis and estimation metricsYou possess excellent numerical skills and analytical mindsetYou have effective communication and negotiation skills.You have a working knowledge of contract language and the legal requirements of contracts.You have experience using different estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.Apply nowwe look forward to meeting you!Since 1951, Drake International continues to be a global leader in flexible and permanent staffing: we help people find the right role at any stage of their careerin Canada, and around the world.
