Job Description

The Executive Director, Risk & Safety Services is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors, while fostering a culture of risk awareness and compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.This role has oversight of the Risk Management, Security Services, and Safety & Research Compliance Services (including Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S)) departments. The Executive Director leads efforts in occupational and environmental health and safety, emergency management, enterprise risk management, business continuity and supports behavioral intervention (employees and students), employing comprehensive risk and safety mitigation services and strategies across the institution.By proactively identifying and managing risks, the Executive Director plays a critical role in supporting the Universitys long-term stability and resilience by safeguarding its people, physical infrastructure, assets, reputation, and continued operation. This person provides visionary leadership to Risk & Safety Services and its constituent teams and fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment within the department and in service to the University community.The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Non-Academic Senior Administrative positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project. Position QualificationsA bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Risk Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration)Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in campus safety, security, risk management, or a related fieldProven track record of managing large teams and complex projectsExperience in a higher education environment is highly desirableSecurity & Investigations LicenseCertified Protection ProfessionalCertified Emergency ManagerCanadian Registered Safety ProfessionalStrong strategic thinking and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively with diverse groupsHigh level of integrity and professionalismKnowledge of current trends and best practices in campus safety and security, insurance, risk management, and OH&SProficiency in using relevant technology and software applicationsThe successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector CheckA valid unrestricted Class 5 Drivers License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.
