NATURE OF WORKThis position has responsibility and authority either directly or through his designates for the overall technical support to operations of all conformity assessment services offered by QPS related to the IB program, final technical review of Field Evaluation reports, make technical decisions on Field Evaluation matters, provided technical training, assist in the consistency of technical decisions, interpretations of technical requirements and standards, technical audits and review of field evaluation reports, technical competence of partners and subcontractors doing work for QPS.REPORTING STRUCTUREThis position reports to the Director Technical Support / Chief of EngineeringEXAMPLES OF WORKListed examples are illustrative and representative of the tasks required of this position, and are not intended to be complete or exclusive.GeneralProvide overall technical support to all of the field evaluation inspectors across the organization.Participate in technical committees associated with the Canadian & National Electrical Codes on as needed basis.EngineeringAssist in the growth and recognition of QPS.Assist where required by the Director Technical Support / Chief of Engineering in the monitoring of operations to ensure that quality policies and procedures are implemented and followed.Assist where required by the Director Technical Support / Chief of Engineering in the overseeing of the technical interface with the network partners. Conduct the initial technical qualification audit as well as subsequent regular audits. Provide training as necessary.Ensure that final technical reviews of reports are performed when requested by the Director Technical Support / Chief of Engineering. Sign off on field evaluation reports.Participate in the Companys Technical Think Tank to deal with all matters related to interpretation of requirements, making engineering judgment, and developing ORDs.Prepare and issue Tech-Notes, providing technical guidelines and direction to staff involved in product testing, evaluation, and certification under the direction of the Director Technical Support / Chief of Engineering.Provide support to certification in the areas of high voltage installations, wind turbine systems & the inspection & approval of components used in the solar industry.Manage high voltage installations & field approvals of all equipment that falls outside the scope of regular certification.Represent QPS and liaise with outside organizations and customers on technical matters. Participate in selected technical committees on the Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code, CSA Standards sub-committees & UL standards sub-committees.Interact with customer service and sales staff across the organization.Interact with Engineering and testing staff across the organization.Working with the Director Technical Support / Chief of Engineering & QA, investigate complaints, product incidents, and reported non- conformances in accordance with Companys procedures. Ensure that corrective actions are properly implemented.Enable and support quality-related and technical training of staff.Provide management oversight and leadership to direct reports, including personnel development through training programs and mentoring.Responsibility for technical consistency and efficiency of projects.Provide technical guidance to subordinate staff members. Assist with their training and development, and coordinating their work flow.Upgrade own technical skills to stay current on related issues and technical data including North American and International Standards.Comply with all safety rules, which include maintaining a safe, orderly and clean environment.Adhere to all company policies and procedures.Perform other work as required.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor Degree in science, engineering, technology, related area, Master Electrician license; or equivalent in terms of education, training and experience.Five years work experience at a Product Compliance laboratory (UL, CSA, ETL, ESA) in the capacity of testing technician, project coordinator, reviewer of high voltage installations, program management or other directly related experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the job.5 Years of CE Code experience.Electricians license is preferred.Previous experience managing projects, interacting effectively with clients and other staff members, and documenting work in an effective manner.Experience utilizing personal computers and a variety of software to manage data.Experience investigating and providing interpretations of technical information.Considerable work experience in a professional, managerial capacity in related field demonstrating an ability to effectively supervise staff, and manage the operational and financial aspects of the job.
