CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)Edmonton, ABThe Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO) has appointed Jay Harvey of Lock Search Group to assist in the recruitment of their next Chief Executive Officer. The AAO is the professional voice for optometrists across Alberta, committed to advancing the profession and ensuring Albertans have access to world-class eye care. If you're energized by the opportunity to influence policy, advocate for professionals, and elevate healthcare outcomesthis could be your next chapter.JOB SUMMARYWorking from their Edmonton office, the CEO will be responsible for setting and executing the strategic direction of the organization, overseeing daily operations, and acting as the primary liaison with stakeholders, including government, healthcare partners, and members. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of optometry in Albertabalancing clinical excellence with strong business acumen to ensure sustainability and growth.RESPONSIBILITIESStrategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board to shape long-term vision and implement strategic initiatives.Operations Management: Oversee programs, member services, financial management, and internal policies to ensure operational excellence.Financial Oversight: Develop and manage annual budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure long-term fiscal sustainability.Advocacy & Government Relations: Lead advocacy efforts with government and regulators to promote the profession and influence healthcare policy.Membership Engagement: Cultivate a strong member community through services, education, and responsive support.Team Leadership: Inspire, develop, and manage a high-performing team aligned with the organizations goals and values.Communications & Public Relations: Serve as the public face of the organization, ensuring consistent and strategic communication with stakeholders.REQUIREMENTSEducation: Bachelors and masters degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Public Policy). A relevant recognized professional designation (e.g., CAE, CPA, CAPM) is considered an asset.Experience:510+ years of senior leadership in a healthcare, association, or non-profit environment.Proven success in strategic planning, financial management, and team leadership.Strong background in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and navigating complex regulatory environments.Skills & Attributes:Strategic thinker with the ability to execute.Excellent communicator and relationship builder.Financially savvy with strong business acumen.Passion for healthcare and public service.Adaptable, resilient, and values driven.This is a unique opportunity to lead a mission-driven organization.
