Reporting to the Director, Market Development, the Market Manager, International role is responsible for influencing how Vancouver is positioned and sold through the travel trade distribution channel in priority international markets such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany and Asia.Developing and maintaining strong relationships with Vancouver industry partners and clients including tour operators, travel agencies, receptive tour operators, on-line travel agencies (OTA), airlines, as well as other distribution partners, the Market Manager, International will develop and execute business development strategies to grow Vancouvers visitor economy responsibly and sustainably in alignment with destination development objectives through collaboration with marketing, travel media, and meetings and conventions, and other internal business units to build integrated market strategies.Strategic Accountabilities:Motivate and enable Team Members to contribute to Destination Vancouvers purpose, vision, business objectives, and priorities.Develop and execute market strategies in collaboration with the consumer marketing, travel media, and meetings and conventions teams.Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry partners and external clients to execute programs that deliver on business priorities and deliver on market performance targets.Increase awareness and expand reach of Vancouvers product offerings and experiences through a variety of education channels and programs.Project administration and financial management in accordance with Destination Vancouver policies and timelines.Key Responsibilities:Leadership / Business PlanningDevelop and execute leisure market strategies in collaboration with consumer marketing and travel media teams, that support Destination Vancouvers business priorities.Collaborate with internal lines of business to develop projects and optimize investments.Lead and oversee Specialist responsibilities, ensuring alignment with business priorities.Oversee in-market representatives scope of work and deliverables in support of market objectives.Work in collaboration with national, provincial, and other city DMOs on marketing partnerships, itineraries, in-market events, and other projects.Maintain extensive knowledge of market conditions, trends, and intelligence from partners to share with internal team and industry partners.Lead and execute all aspects of travel trade partnerships to increase awareness, demand, and sales of Vancouvers tourism experiences, and generate growth in visitation and revenues.Relationship ManagementDevelop a key account strategy in priority markets to maximize opportunities and investments.Develop and maintain strong client relationships with tour operators, wholesalers, travel agents, online travel agencies, receptive tour operators, airlines, cruise partners and other key distribution partners.Influence and collaborate with receptive tour operators to increase supply and distribution of Vancouver products and experiences, while generating demand for priority seasons.Develop and execute client visits (i.e. FAMs) to Vancouver to bring more awareness to Vancouvers offerings.Create opportunities for industry partners to strengthen relationships with travel trade clients (i.e. training, events, sales missions).Marketing Partnerships & EducationNegotiate marketing partnerships with key accounts to increase awareness, distribution, and sales of Vancouver tourism products, services, and experiences.Track and manage marketing partnerships by defining performance targets, monitoring effectiveness and final results.Collaborate with travel trade and marketing services teams on key travel trade marketing projects such as the New Product Guide, Themed Itineraries, Marketing Tool-Kit, Trade Talk newsletter.Deliver destination training presentations to travel trade, to increase product and destination knowledge. Responsible for the promotion and growth of the Vancouver Specialist online training program database in international markets. Tradeshows & Sales MissionsRepresent Destination Vancouver at relevant tradeshows, marketplaces, conferences, and/or other market development events.Develop and lead in-market sales missions in collaboration with industry partners and clients.Ensure timely follow-up with clients and distribution of leads to partners.AdministrationPlan travel accommodations, flights, hotels, transfers, and in-market activities in accordance with Destination Vancouver travel policies.Manage and process all travel-related documents including payments, itineraries, and required travel documents.Manage logistics of in-market events from registration through execution. Negotiate and manage projects (ie activities, investments, targets), monitor and report on performance.Manage contractors and in-market representatives assigned to key markets and/or projects.Maintain client database and manage all activities in Simpleview CRM.Develop sales materials to support partnerships and sales activities.Manage travel trade budgets for international markets.Contribute to quarterly and annual performance setting and tracking.People DevelopmentSupport Specialist Team Members including involvement with recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching. Travel Media experience is an asset.Organized, analytical, critical thinker with strong project-management and communications skills, and business acumen.Excellent verbal, written, and business presentation skills.Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills.Takes initiative with a positive attitude.Knowledge of Vancouver products and experiences is an asset.Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CRM tools.Willingness and flexibility to travel.Five years of tourism related experience in business development, sales and marketing. Experience in international market(s) an asset.Proficient in English (written and verbal). Other languages are an asset, for example, German, Chinese, Korean etc.Post-secondary education in a related field and/or equivalent experience.This 18-month contract is to cover a maternity leave.
