Job Description

The primary objective of this role is to perform electrical maintenance and repairs on industrial equipment. This involves troubleshooting issues, replacing or repairing faulty components, and ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner. Key responsibilities include: Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and diagrams to determine the layout of industrial electrical equipment installations; Testing electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance; Installing, examining, replacing, or repairing AC/DC motors and drives, PLCs, 480V power, 120V control circuits, 4160-volt switchgear, transformers, motors, starters, relays, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical controls; Installing, examining, replacing, or repairing electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fibre-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components; Performing preventive maintenance inspections and testing of various electrical systems, including power distribution equipment; Quickly repairing electrical failures and replacing parts where production time is frequently affected; Correcting wiring and connections on machinery controls where incorrect applications could cause damage and hazardous conditions; Fabricating, installing, and/or running conduit, 3-phase work, motor terminations, control and instrument troubleshooting, and panel work; Working on systems operating at 240 volts, 480 volts wye, 480 volts delta, 4160 volt switchgear, transformers, and motors by following electrical drawings and using test instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, and PCs; Conducting preventive maintenance programs and keeping maintenance records; Maintaining knowledge of and ability to interpret the Canadian Electric Code; Maintaining up-to-date training in low- and high-voltage handling and safety; Maintaining proficiency in fundamentals of lockout/tagout; Understanding project requests from upper management, laying out, determining and ordering materials needed, and being responsible for successful completion and start-up; Maintaining basic knowledge of industrial control logic (ladder logic); Maintaining familiarity with burner control systems - flame sensing systems, associated safety devices and logic, burner modulator controls; must understand and be able to troubleshoot; Experience with AC & DC motors and drives; Maintaining experience in performing preventive maintenance tasks, taking corrective action for repairs, and being knowledgeable in electrical equipment installations; Ability to read electrical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints; Possessing a high degree of initiative, creativity, communication skills, self-supervision, and respect for safety requirements; Being a team player and working closely with maintenance, production, engineering, and outside services; Having a flexible work schedule - shift work, overtime, and weekends, and schedule changes are routine and required aspects of the position; Ability to climb ladders; Understanding P&ID''s; Having a valid class 5 driver''s license;
