With values rooted in compassion, progressiveness, and community engagement, our strategic plan aims to invest in our people and build a sustainable future.What Would You Do?Reporting to the Manager, Animal Protection Services, this position is responsible for responding to animal related emergencies (for sick/injured wildlife and domestic animals) & enforcing Town of Oakville Animal Control By-laws. Key responsibilities include:Responding to animal related emergencies for standard calls and investigations of potential animal related By-Law violationsEnforcing legislation under the Town of Oakville By-Laws and Dog Owners Liability ActIssuing Administrative Monetary Penalties, Summonses, and preparation of Crown Briefs as requiredPick up of deceased animals on roadways and parksHandling of both domestic animals and wildlifeKeeping an accurate evidence notebookTransporting animals to neighbouring veterinary clinics and supporting related deliveries for the shelterAlways ensuring high quality customer service to clientsResponding to all public inquiries in person, over phone or through emailParticipation in public relation activities including public education programs and animal services events The ability to work successfully in a team environment and build effective working relationships inside and outside the animal protection team is essential. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to deescalate tense situations is critical.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience: High School diploma plus one or more completed years in Veterinary Technology, Animal Health Technology, Police Foundations, Law & Security or equivalentStrong written & oral communication/interpersonal skillsAble to work successfully in a team environment and build effective work relationships.Excellent interpersonal skillsAble to problem solve effectively Skilled in de-escalation techniquesAble to work all shifts, including overnights. Shift work (including mornings, afternoons, nights, and holidays as required): we operate 24/7. 365 days a year.
