We have an exciting 18-months contract opportunity with possible extension for a ABAP SME (Subject Matter Expert) in Saskatchewan (Canada). Primarily Remote role with possible onsite work Must haves: 10 years of ABAP development experience, including SAP version upgrades. Experience with SAP Payroll (Canadian Payroll). Proven ability to resolve complex ABAP issues in production environments. Strong knowledge of SAP modules and their integration with ABAP. Proficiency in SAP ABAP programming (reports, forms, enhancements, interfaces, and conversions). Experience with Object-Oriented ABAP, SAP HANA, and SAP Fiori is highly desirable. If you are available, please send your resume to Job Description: Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP) Subject Matter Expert (SME) Contract Duration: 18 months + 6-month option extension Start Date: TBD (Likely late November 2024, based on evaluation timeline) End Date: TBD (18 months from the start date) Location: Primarily remote (Saskatchewan time, GMT -6), with possible on-site work in Saskatoon at the proponents expense. Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Saskatchewan time, GMT -6), 160 hours/month. Reporting To: ERP Portfolio Lead IT and Project Manager Language Requirement: English Project Overview: The client implemented SAP S/4 HANA Version 2019 in 2020. Due to the standard 5-year SAP maintenance lifecycle, the City needs to upgrade to the latest SAP S/4 HANA version by 2025. This upgrade will impact all SAP modules, integrations, interfaces, and workflows. The project will include Phase I (Scope Assessment in 2024) and Phase II (Execution in 2025). To support the upgrade, the City requires an ABAP Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead key technical deliverables, provide guidance on complex issues, and help build internal capabilities. Scope of Work: 1. SAP Version Upgrade Support: Provide technical expertise on the SAP version upgrade and enhancements. Identify and mitigate risks to ensure smooth transition. Ensure compatibility and optimization of customizations for the upgraded version. 2. Ticket Review and Resolution: Analyze and resolve complex tickets, including those related to SAP Payroll (Canadian Payroll). Conduct root cause analysis of recurring issues and propose permanent solutions. Collaborate with functional teams to align business needs with customizations. 3. Internal Capability Building: Mentor and train internal team members on ABAP and SAP skills in preparation for the upgrade. Develop and maintain documentation, best practices, and guidelines for ABAP development. Lead knowledge-sharing sessions to promote continuous learning. 4. Quality Assurance and Code Review: Conduct code reviews for compliance with SAP best practices and coding standards. Optimize ABAP code for performance, maintainability, and scalability. Provide recommendations to improve system performance and efficiency through ABAP enhancements. 5. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including SAP functional consultants, project managers, and business stakeholders. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Support project planning and execution by providing time estimates and regular status updates. Key Deliverables: Successful technical support during SAP version upgrade. Timely resolution of complex tickets (including SAP Payroll issues). Development of internal ABAP capability through mentoring and training. Delivery of optimized and compliant ABAP code. Continuous collaboration with project stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals. Evaluation Criteria: Submission Requirements: Resume outlining education, skills, and experience relevant to the deliverables. Description of 10+ years of ABAP development experience, particularly in SAP upgrades and SAP Payroll. Three project examples demonstrating expertise in resolving complex ABAP issues. Strong understanding of SAP modules and their integration with ABAP. Qualifications and Experience: Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. SAP ABAP Certification is required. Experience: Minimum 10 years of ABAP development experience, including SAP version upgrades. Experience with SAP Payroll (Canadian Payroll). Proven ability to resolve complex ABAP issues in production environments. Strong knowledge of SAP modules and their integration with ABAP. Technical Skills: Proficiency in SAP ABAP programming (reports, forms, enhancements, interfaces, and conversions). Experience with Object-Oriented ABAP, SAP HANA, and SAP Fiori is highly desirable. Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager and transport management. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and mentoring skills.
